New GIGABYTE Aim Stabilizer SYNC - ASUS ELMB SYNC

Post by Discorz » 08 Apr 2021, 04:12

New GIGABYTE monitors AORUS FI32Q and M32Q (32" 1440p IPS 170Hz) will support backlight strobing and adaptive sync working simultaneously. just like ASUS's ELMB SYNC technology. They will call it Aim Stabilizer Sync (ASS). Hopefully it doesn't perform "ass" bad :D. Specifications lists M32Q 1ms GtG, 0.8ms MPRT and FI32Q 1ms GtG, 1ms MPRT. Doesn't look good .

Quote GIGABYTE:
"Upgraded Aim Stabilizer is able to conduct the motion blur reduction and V-Sync technology at the same time! Greatly improving your FPS aim!" - https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/AORUS-FI32Q#tech

Its interesting how they said V-Sync and not adaptive sync.

EDIT:
Unfortunately M32Q doesn't use single strobe. It works very similarly to VG27AQ ELMB-SYNC.

That's good news. The more companies working on this the better. Hopefully they will be able to improve on it compared to what Asus has done so far.

This is very interesting and honestly and unexpected approach to strobing enhancement.

I can imagine some sort of algorithm/logic to prevent multiple scanout images in the same refresh.

It will be great for fps≥refresh rate scenarios.

There is always compromises (usually micrstutter) for framerates above refreshrate. Any claims otherwise is marketing -- but brute overkill (e.g. 300fps at 120Hz) has always been the time-honored fix, for all strobe technologies, including LightBoost from ten years ago. Strobed framerates slightly above refresh rate still has visible microstutter on all sync technologies when paying attention (e.g. tiny moving text in panning scenes).

Seems like LG is also implementing Strobed VRR in their monitors.
Hardware Unboxed did a review on LG 27GP850 wich supports it - https://youtu.be/ItPCOFR5xuU?t=769
It look the same as ASUS ELMB SYNC Gen 2.

Good news for strobed vrr fans (if there are any)!

Hardware Unboxed did a review on GIGABYTE M32Q wich support Aim Stabilizer Sync.
They say It delivers similar results to classical strobing unlike ASUS ELMB-SYNC or LG's implementation. There is still some crosstalk and small amount of blur but much better than competition's.
"It does work with adaptive sync enabled and does strobe appropriate to dynamic refresh rate." https://youtu.be/tS7HYqepUZI?t=543

Red phosphor alert lol!

Blur Busters is starting to work on VRR strobing implementations now -- it seems like the market for VRR strobing is expanding.

Yes! Finally! :) Blur Busters approved 5.0?
I was planning to ask you just that for quite some time...
