I'm a bit confused about the Asus PG27AQN's 25" mode.
It's a cool idea for gamers that play both single player and competitive games, but the monitor's 25" native resolution is 2368x1332 as opposed to 1080p.

So if I buy this monitor and use both modes, what res will I run my competitive games at? I keep them at 1080p in-game and allow the display to scale the game to 1332p for me ? Won't that add input lag?
It just adds 2368x1332 resolution to the list. So its not the same framerate as with 1080p. At 360Hz scan-out it can add up to 0.2 ms of latency (imperceptible). You can do this on all monitors with custom resolutions.

Idk if you can do 1080p while keeping the 25" frame. Maybe. In this case its not 1:1 pixel scaling.

Correct, because 1080p isn't a native res, the image will be blurry using the 25" mode.
It's not a big deal if the monitor has premium image scaling, I'm assuming Asus already took this into consideration, just would be interesting to see how much input lag it adds.

I wouldn't worry about that. Probably even more imperceptible.

Every monitor has this. This is just marketing. All you need to do is use a lower resolution and disable scaling. Then you get a smaller image. The smaller the resolution, the smaller the image will be. And even if the monitor doesn't have a way to disable scaling, you can force native res output in your GPU driver and disable scaling there (that is, force GPU scaling but set it to 1:1.)

Some people have been doing this for over a decade now.

Yeah I would save my breath waiting for that ViewSonic ELITE XG272-2K.
Exactly a year ago, they announced a 300hz mini-LED 27" 1440p IPS with the same model name. https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/news/9f83714
There has been zero activity regarding this model since.
(same goes for MSI MEG 271Q Mini LED and AGON PRO AG274QGM btw)

It will take time.

The XG272G-2K (with G) is a different model. However these mini LED monitors don't exist for me because from what I saw they all use PWM dimming (flicker) which is what we were trying to exterminate for the last 2 decades. So if we want OLED-like blacks with mini LED it won't be full flicker free. That is sad because its 2023.

Ah my bad, thanks for correcting me on that!
Also happy that now I won't wait for a mini-LED.
I will be content with my 1440p 300hz Acer IPS for now, and when the 4K 27" (or 32") 240hz OLED exists in 2024+ i'll get that! :P

ViewSonic Announce XG272-2K OLED Monitor with 240Hz and Black Frame Insertion (BFI)

with the screen also being certified under the ‘Blurbusters Verified’ scheme making it an interesting option for gaming enthusiasts.

shame it is a bit too late for a 240hz oled, I will keep waiting for the asus 480hz with gsync pulsar in august. Viewsonic should have announced the same but with the new panel, not the 1.5 year old one.
