IIyama refresh 144hz - but one time booted with lower value

Talk about AMD's FreeSync and VESA AdaptiveSync, which are variable refresh rate technologies. They also eliminate stutters, and eliminate tearing. List of FreeSync Monitors.

IIyama refresh 144hz - but one time booted with lower value

Post by sew333 » 13 Nov 2017, 12:50

Hello.
My pc:
6700K stock
*16GB DDR4
*Asus Z170-P
*Corsair 750 RM
*Gtx 1080 Ti Founder Edition
*Monitor Red Eagle IIyama 24' 1080p 144hz plugged by display port cable to GFX.

Maybe this is coincidence and i am worrying about nothing.
Few days ago on afternoon i booted pc fine but i saw that Windows 10 desktop refresh changed itself from 144hz to lower value ( i dont remember to which ) . To restore again 144hz , i turned off monitor ,turned again on.
That happened just once. I remember that this day i had power outage in morning. This was related to power outage or it was coincidence?

It's happened to me multiple times before on a GTX 980 Ti, 1080, and 1080 Ti (e.g. same computer, different cards over the past couple years) paired with a single 165Hz XB271HU G-SYNC monitor.

Sometimes I've restarted to find only 85Hz and below selectable. Another restart fixes it.

I haven't had the issue occur since I clean installed the Windows Fall Creators update, but that doesn't mean it won't happen again. I haven't been able to pin down the cause myself yet. Could be a display driver, EDID, cable issue, etc. Not sure.

So that was bug or that power outage related?

But i like i said on my first pc run ( boot ) after power outage refresh was 144hz fine. It happened just after i normally shutdown my pc and booted pc second time.

Maybe coincidence and i am worrying for nothing, hehe ?

So conclusion: It happened not just after ( not on pc first power on ) power outage.
But on second time ( second turn ) when i boot to Windows 10.

PS: I tried to reproduce only 3 times by cutting power to pc and powering on and booting again, but 144hz on start. Not able to reproduce.

Maybe coincidence and i am worrying for nothing?

It happens on a plain old restart or boot for me every blue moon. I just installed the new Nvidia driver today, and it did it again.

Again, I haven't narrowed down the cause. Could be a number of things, but I doubt it was your power outage that caused or triggered it.

Yes i had power outage. All was fine ,until my second boot ( turning on pc ) after power outage. On first turning on pc , boot after power outage, all was fine 144hz on startup. But when i turn off pc and turn on again, windows 10 booted second time with lower refresh than 144hz. To revert 144hz i just turn off monitor and turn on again.

Just on my second turning ON pc after power outage, it happened. Thats all.

And i am not able to reproduce. Turning off pc few times and booting again, and nothing, still 144hz. Even i cut power 3 times to check, but still 144hz on boot. So maybe that was glitch or something but not related to that power outage?

My drivers: 388.13

Damn sorry for my language. Really apologize.

I can't reproduce the issue on demand either. Again, it is probably is a bug or a cable transmission issue, and is not caused by power outages (mine is a completely different monitor model than yours and it's G-SYNC, and I have experienced the same thing).

But it's hard to test because it's almost completely random.

This problem is quite random, if it happens again revert back to older drivers, that are at leat 6-10 months old. If it doesn't fix the problem, then disconnect pc and monitor from power completely (same with DP cable) for a few minutes, then reconnect DP cable again and power on.

Ok my post up , nevermind. But important question to you jorimt.
In your situation turning off monitor and turning on again resolving 144hz? Or only pc restart?
Like i said i just turn off monitor turn on again and 144hz appeared again.
