Is the ViewSonic XG2431 without strobing still king for minimum input lag, response time, ghosting and motion blur?

Everything about displays and monitors. 120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz, 4K, 1440p, input lag, display shopping, monitor purchase decisions, compare, versus, debate, and more. Questions? Just ask!

For the esports, I was referring to the stretched resolutions. dude, you don't read posts thoroughly. You make a judgement before you finished the first sentence and all the rest just doesn't get absorbed.

According to rtings there is virtually zero input delay with strobing. 2.9ms counts as 0 because it takes a whopping 15ms for 1 frame of input delay in order to make any kind of significant impact, 5ms is the minimum that is considered noticeable by pros and even they have failed a double blind test on that.
It's clearly not how it work in all case, if you drop below your max FPS, frametimes become less stable you feel lag and this lag are even more noticeable.
it's not about "notice 5ms" or not, that's not about that, it's more complicated than just "feel or don't feel the difference by only 5ms", you can feel the difference between 240hz and 360hz and it's only a low difference like :

360 Hz:
Time per frame = 1000 ms / 360 Hz ≈ 2.78 ms

240 Hz:
Time per frame = 1000 ms / 240 Hz ≈ 4.17 ms

Difference = 4.17 ms - 2.78 ms = 1.39 ms

And it's noticeable :)

XG2431 increased "lag" with strobing enabled is an old LIE, MenaRd just beat all the Japanese fighting gaming gods with their wired arcade stick at EVO Japan Street Fighter 6 using a cheap default wireless bluetooth controller consistently pulling off perfect parry
your argument is really not credible, you are basing yourself on an experienced player to say "this screen has no visible input lag because a player beat someone else"
Except that it has no connection, you are talking about a specific case, on a specific game, on a specific type of game, against 2 completely different people and in a specific context.
In addition, you are talking about Tekken, which is in 60hz, the XG2431, like many screens, will be 100% refresh compliant for this refresh rate, so the screen will not have too much trouble managing this and the difference will not be obvious at this hertz rate.
By testing in real conditions, in a game, not with a machine that scans a flash, without OSRTT, just you, you can see the difference in movement feeling, you put another 240hz screen, side by side, with two PCs ( otherwise you increase the GPU latency) and you test for yourself, you can feel that it is less "instantaneous", less "reactive", you clearly have to be a beginner or be insensitive to this not to feel it, afterwards, everyone has their own requirements, ok it's not like playing on a cr*p random 60hz TV but it's doesn't feel like a 1440p 240hz that i have or a TN 240hz for example, it's different, ofc you don't, you don't even play at 240hz lmao

Even with the 2.9ms strobing "Lag" combined with 8.8ms input delay at 60 HZ the XG2431 still has lower input delay than the fastest Zowie E Sport gaming monitor at 60 HZ without strobing.
No one cares (as much as you) about using a Zowie at 60hz but listen, fight for yourself.

The XG2431 are less smooth/instanteneous than some other 240hz, some people already complaint about that and are clearly not perfect, that's a fact.

Your reasons for returning the xg2431 are completely valid. I will say that the strobing lag is reduced tremendously by using a custom resolution with a lvt. While you do not want a CPU bottleneck, you don't want your GPU maxed or above 90% either when it comes to reducing input latency. That's why I play my games with an in game limiter or Special K. I understand any brightness concerns but I myself play in the dark anyway. Borderlands 2 at 120hz after dialing in the strobe was pure perfection. It's actually better most times to use rtss or special k because their limiters can also act as sync tech, allowing you to move the tearline off screen. You get both low input latency and smooth tearless gaming. Just only use it on single player games unless you want a ban.
You meant “invalid” right?
In fact, i'm the only one who decided if it's actually valid or not for my case O_o , don't get me wrong, i tried everything but when I buy a screen, I don't want to be a nerd by customizing resolutions for hours or days, I want to > play.

CRU is a very interesting tool and we can do good things with certain monitors (like with the XL2566K) but I don't have any use for it, I play better without it and I don't specially need it, if you enjoy your XG2431, it's cool for you, that's not my case and not the case of a lot of people, i understand the demand of people by wanting a good 60hz/120hz without motion blur, i really understand that but it's not perfect like some say.

About solo games, i don't play on small monitor, i prefer to play on my extra large 60hz OLED TV and enjoy 4K and graphics, i will never use a small 24inch 1080p monitor for that.

Lol fam I was saying you were valid because you don't have to defend what you do or don't do with your money. All of these experiences are subjective and to each their own.

@Sirius

Thanks for your reply. Sorry that it took so long to provide an update.

I ended up trying the BenQ XL2546K at the same time. My expectations for it were extremely low yet it absolutely blew the ViewSonic XG2431 out of the water. It was more responsive, DyAc was actually worth using, there was no black crush, I could calibrate the colours to look better than stock and I appreciated the panel being a tad bigger. I immediately noticed that AMA off was not the most optimal setting as you pointed out which begs the question how RTINGS produced their testing results.

PureXP on the ViewSonic XG2431 was far too slow for competitive use. The XG2431 really is a niche monitor and extremely overrated for what it is.

BenQ proved to me that TN is still relevant in 2024 although DyAc is what sold me. The increased clarity without sacrificing performance versus a monitor without it is like night and day.

In fact I have since settled on the BenQ XL2546X (the 240Hz 2024 refresh). I am completely aware of the shortcomings of TN but it clearly still is the undefeated champion for competitive gaming today. I know that could change with future OLED+BFI monitors though.

I kind of wish that BenQ offered an XL2566X (a 360Hz 2024 refresh) as I pretty much never drop below 300fps after upgrading my PC.

Sorry for late reply, i didn't come here recently because i do a LOT of test and change on my setup like :

GPU : RTX 3070 > RTX 4080 Super Noctua Edition !
CPU : 13600K > 7800x3D
Keyboard : Ducky One 3 SF > Wooting 80HE
and some other stuff.

You literally have the exact same feeling that i've had with the X2431 ( i've had this screen two times ! ) (no one pro FPS player use this anyway), it feels very meh, very...slow ? and like i said...just meh, trash OSD control, feels like a 300 dollars random LCD monitor, it is just good for niche people's that want 60hz/120hz strobing (i will never understand the wish to wanting that bcz strobing at low hertz are just not usable because strobing become visible with naked eyes, at least, for me)

Right ! bigger panel = slightly better, you spot easily, the black equaliser is really good, the benq feels more "instant", we have pratically the same opinion, crazy !
Anyway, i'm not that agree with you about DyAc, for me, it's overrated, like all strobing tbh, i don't really like strobing, mostly because i play at Apex Legends and this is not that good on this game (which have a lot of clutter, effect, folliage) and you absolutely do not want to have these things being 2 times lol, idk...strobing doesn't not worth on COD and Apex Legends, i never enjoy using that tbh.

But i understand that it is interesting !

I Still play with my TRASH XV272UX Acer which are a 1440p QD-IPS 270hz (an AUO Optronic panel from 2020) and this is literally one of the worse screen so far that i've had, when i play with those 1080p TN panel, i just play so much better, it's not a cheat code but it's day and night with my actual bad IPS, why i still have this crap ? because either other screen that i test are too expensive either they have a cons that i cannot handle, anyway, i will change this crap for sure this year, OLED...TN or another IPS...idk but that's sure, i really want to throw in a trash this screen, which is painful to use everyday (too bright, cause headache, have red QD tint which cannot be removed, a lot of overshoot on good overdrive settings and a LOT of ghosting and slow response time on other overdrive mode)
Current temporary test : Waiting for the MPG 271QRX QD-OLED | Main monitor : actually nothing | I've had : 1080P : XL2546X / XL2566K / XL2546K / XL2546 / XL2540K / XL2746S / EX2510 / MAG251RX / NXG253R / MAG271CR / VG259QM / VG258QM / XG249CM / XG259CM / VG279QM / S2522HG / XG2431 / XG2405 / XG2702 / AW2518HF / AW2521HF / AW2720HF / 24G2U / Omen X 25 | 1440P : XV272UX / MAG274QRF-QD / 27GP850 / 27GN850 / AW2723DF / Omen X 27 / XG27AQM / XG27AQMR / S2721DGFA / Odyssey G7 / EX270QM / VG27AQML1A / XENEON 27QHD240 / XV272UKF / XV272UX 4K : U28G2XU2 / M32UC
