new monitor question about windowed fullscreen G-Sync

Post by kizx » 17 Mar 2025, 20:47

hello I changed my monitor for Koorui ‎27E3QK and did a DDU of my drivers and while I was testing my games I noticed that one of my main game path of exile ( with vulkan ) is not working with G-Sync in windowed fullscreen because im always using only the " fullscreen" check mark in NVCP but I swear it used to work on my old monitor, either I got confuse along the way/bug ? / or I did something along the way but i can tell the difference because with or without G-sync is smooth but without G-Sync you feel like the game is not as "locked in " super in sync especially on the mouse part" and then i tested with fullscreen and with G-Sync the usual good feeling is there:D people might ask why not play in fullscreen, well for this game we need to alt tab alot to buy stuff in the trade browser shop and we use alot of overlays that only work in windowed fullscreen.

Now my question is that in 2025 with windows 11 and stuff is fullscreen & windowed in NVCP still worst than only fullscreen setting or its now good that would be a simple fix. Otherwise if its still bad is there something I can do to have G-sync enabled with windowed fullscreen?

thank you.

In the nvidia control panel's 3D settings, either globally or per-game, change the "Vulkan/OpenGL Present Method" to DXGI or native and see which one works.

I want to play in vulkan, what you were saying is that if i was in Dx gscync would work with windored fullscreen even without checking the check mark for it ? but is that check mark still bad in 2025 ?

Also why gsync cause my mouse to feel "smooth" while without it it feels fine but less smooth

Yes, that setting is for both Vulkan and OpenGL games. It might allow g-sync to work in Windowed mode Vulkan.

its working, i just dont really understand what it does, it feels the same as before i think so thank you for that.

side question im looking at my frametime graph with rivatuner today and noticed that in path of exile im at 2.9- 4ms at 237 fps. while in league of legends im at 5-6ms with 237ms , what is the cause of that i thought that frametime is just about fps. is there other optimisations involve ? that could point me in the right direction if i want to improve the frametime for my other games thank you

It uses a DXGI swapchain for the final frame presentation. Basically Vulkan renders the frames, but at the final step where normally Vulkan would send the finished frames to the display, that final step is replaced with DXGI, which handles windowed mode much better than Vulkan.

FPS capping is the best method to get stable frame times.
