DPRTMELR, that’s it you nailed it, I have no idea what my expectations are concerning higher refresh rates because I never experienced it.

And it’s also true for strobing, it’s so hard to make an opinion without having the opportunity to try.

1440p 240hz might indeed be a good spot, it’s so hard to find a decent price for one of those in France right now though…

consider the question in terms of motion resolution. Do you want higher resolution still images, or clearer panning images that are not as sharp?

That’s a question for which I don’t have an answer sadly.
I mostly play games that favor sharpness and clear panning together: the best example being squad and dcs. I need resolution to see the enemy from afar but I’m also panning the camera very often and quite fast…
And both games are hard to drive due to being cpu intensive so very high fps are going to be hard to get.

Another semi-side track off topic: I have two computers setup side by side on my desk, one for work.

Before I started working from home, I used to be able to just sit down and get ready for gaming by browsing the web for a bit while listening to some music. Now I have to warm up in order to shift into the headshot machine mode. jk it's more of deadeyed panning for black in a place thats not supposed to be black - mode

Anyway if you have a tv laying around that's never being watched, I think console is a real alternative for actual relaxation imo. I am pretty sure the controllers are more ergonomic friendly for your hands too for the long sessions.

Which game(s) you play and can you reach 360 FPS?
Most cs:go pros sticked to 240Hz monitors (mostly BenQ XL2546K). It's debatable whether the 360Hz are better. And a large part of said pros don't use DyAc (strobing) on their BenQ. It's not just about Hz, because pixel response times are very important for motion blur.
Btw, the best 360Hz+ monitor is probably not the Alienware, the Acer Nitro XV252Q F I am using seems to be better (strobing at 390Hz).
I am waiting for the upcoming monitors (500Hz 1080p and 360Hz 1440p from Asus, 360Hz 1080p BenQ) with the hope that pixel response times have been improved.

Given the debatable advantage of 360Hz over 240Hz and your interest in 1440p, for a monitor below 500€ I'd advise you choose one of the 240Hz/270Hz 1440p fast-IPS ones.

It really does seem to be a "pick your poison" sort of scenario, since there is no single monitor that is the be all end all. It is tough to make a good decision when you don't have hands on experience with different resolutions or refresh rates. But perhaps a few suggestions I would make would be:

1. If you're competitive in fast paced shooters/RTS games, decide as to whether you want lowest latency possible, or clearest motion. Lowest latency would be a 360-390+Hz monitor(and definitely 1080p since 1080p render latency will be a solid amount lower than 1440p). Clearest motion would be a monitor that can strobe very effectively, potentially at 240hz or higher, as far as a recommendation for what can, I'm not read up on the monitor scene enough lately to say with confidence.

2. If you're NOT competitive, but just like to casually enjoy the latest fast and slow paced shooters, along a solid variety of games, then I would certainly not prioritize the lowest latency(1080p@>240Hz) monitors. You can still get incredible MBR that will increase motion clarity drastically on lower refresh rate monitors, so I think for someone like you who wants to enjoy the wow factor of incredible picture quality, as well as motion clarity, I would look for the best 1440p @~240Hz monitor that has the best balance of picture quality to motion blur reduction quality/customization. As far as which monitor would be best for something like that, I'm not quite sure.

If you want CRT quality motion blur reduction, even 240Hz sample and hold will not be able to keep up. I believe 120Hz strobing is roughly as clear as 480Hz sample and hold. So 1440p@~240Hz strobed is probably a really good compromise between picture quality, versatility in different games(including Squad where the increased pixel density will really help you view enemies clearly at distance), and motion blur reduction, if you find a model that can do so effectively, without losing picture quality. Just my opinions of course.

Edit: Maybe a monitor to check out would be the MSI Optix MAG274QRX. Looks like a good balance of features for the money.

Two types:
- the first is games like Squad, DCS, MSFS and ACC. None of them can reach 360fps and even 240fps is far fetch.
- the second are games like CSGO, AC and BMS. They can reach high fps like 240fps and maybe 360fps.

I'm not competitive, I just want CRT clarity and OLED quality.

I wonder if the slower MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD is not better than the MAG274QRX for me. The strobing is apparently much better on it so the question is 120fps strobed vs 240fps. Considering the quantity of games I can run at 120fps (with my 3060ti) vs 240fps, maybe it's a better bet?

Have you checked the AW3423DW ? It's QD-OLED and the motion clarity is said to be quite good and some even say cs:go is a treat with this.

The AW3423DW is way out of my budget (around 400-500€) sadly.

I had a 280hz tn for the longest time, I then purchased the 360hz Alienware ips. Coming from a Csgo standpoint yes the latency is prob faster but good god the blur feels awful on the 360hz.
