it's VRB Extreme that squeeze clarity out of strobing
Just tried that (extreme VBR + extreme overdrive) and yes its pretty crisp. Stationary and moving objects look similar like in the CRT days (hey it only took ~ 20 yrs to get back most of what we lost, and btw, am I wrong in thinking Blur Busters has been a monolithic industry driver in this area?). Did not notice crosstalk in real life with that short test either but didn't really look.

As long as the PC puts out 300-400fps I will probably run it uncapped as it looks and feels plenty "good enough". May change it later. Strobing, unless I'm mistaken needs V-sync on if you want to see the full benefits (sans tearing) and it does feel a bit snappier without V-sync.

can someone with viper 8k find out for me if the polling rate gets saved in memory and if the settings I've saved will persist even when plugging into a computer without synapse. I am only asking because the last time I've used razer synapse (at least a decade ago) it didn't really save anything to the mouse itself and it always had to check up with synapse on boot up to get things loaded up.

-edit
viper 8k is 8k polling out of the box and you can just the dpi switcher on bottom soooo.. it's actually w7 compatible :D however synapse 3 will not pick it up as a compatible device. their rationale being that w7 usb pollings stuck at 125, maybe I will send them an email later and maybe they might be nice enough to add it as an option, prob not =\

Anyway acer 390hz monitor with tvr off, od normal (i am seeing things on extreme, it's subtle but it's there 100%) plus an 8k mouse is a dream. Don't worry about whether the mouse will make you a better player or not, because if nothing else the 8k mouse actually makes the game "feel" smoother and that of itself is worth imo if you are at this post. I haven't felt things this smooth since I was playing on XP with some lg monitor. i haven't messed with mouse testers or anything technical yet aside from double checking that my mouse polling is not locked at 125 via browser test but feelsgood is definitely there and is worth paying for if you have everything else ready.

I think that having monitors such as the XG2431 with high granularity overdrive and great strobing control is surely having an impact in this market.

Low lag vsync performs the same as V-Sync but with a much lower latency penalty:

Alternatively, you can get great results by using an overkill frame rate far exceeding refresh rate, this is my go-to for fps/moba games.

Awesome, I am familiar with RivaTuner.

Strobing amplifies microstutters, especially framerate-refreshrate mismatch stutters.

Less motion blur = easier to see tiny stutters

So strobing looks much better with framerate=Hz

You need a very accurate method of framerate cap matching Hz (many in-game methods of framerate cap that doesn't match the number at www.testufo.com/refreshrate to the 3rd precise digit)

There's many ways to force framerate=Hz, with pros/cons.
- VSYNC ON is the most precise and reliable, but very laggy
- Low-Lag VSYNC tricks such as NULL as well as the HOWTO at www.blurbusters.com/howto-low-lag-vsync-on/
- RTSS Scanline Sync (a little fiddly but amazing as a tearingless VSYNC ON mode)
- Special-K Latent Sync (really good, but anticheat might have problems with it)
- VSYNC OFF + accurate RTSS frame rate cap (will create a near-stationary tearline, in exchange for making jitters disappear)

How do i reset this monitor, also if I keep the brightness lower, does it help with motion clarity? for example using lower brightness with ULMB improves motion clarity, does that apply to this monitor if I lower the brightness? does that make sense?

Reason why screen is dimmer with VRB is because backlight turns off/on fast (strobes). This results in lower persistance aka clearer motion. Shorter the pulse - clearer the motion - but the lower the brightness. Reducing brightness does not effect pulse width on this monitor, only pulse height.

Examples from rtings:
strobing OFF - https://i.rtings.com/assets/products/QB ... -large.jpg
strobing ON - https://i.rtings.com/assets/products/mn ... -large.jpg

yes that seems to be the general basic science101, but notice this monitor doesn't really have ULMB, where as the rog etc still has that option.

So are we sure the flickering is cause of the cable? I swapped out one with another and I got flickering within a months or so, it's acting up again lately and i'm about sick of this monitor. Either gonna sell it .. kinda don't think it's the cable..

You might have a faulty unit.

I have 0 issues both with the stock cable and a 1.4 VeSa Certifed DP.

The only way I can get flickering with this monitor is by enabling VRB when Freesync is already enabled.
For unknown reasons the firmware doesn't prevent VRB + VRR even though it's not supported.
Analogously it is also possible to change the overdrive with Freesync Premium enabled but sometimes it's randomly greyed out, very weird stuff :?
