The converter I got to run my P97f+ (at 1600x1200 85hz) with my R9 390 only cost about 60 EUR.
Know anyone that's run input lag tests on the active converters?

I've owned my FW900 for over 10 years now. Sadly though, the power supply seems to have just gone out on her. I do plan to repair it, but with the gtx 1080 coming very shortly, I'm thinking that my years of avoiding anything LCD may soon be at an end.

In the mean time, I've been using an old Westinghouse 1440x900 monitor and, my god, it is absolutely horrendous. It's VERY hard for me to game on it, but I've purposely spent time doing just that. I try to ignore the utterly garbage image and motion reproduction and instead focus on the content of the game. I have had some minimal success with games like The Talos Principle, allowing myself to get into the game and forget that I have to stop moving every few seconds just to be able to see what I'm looking at (or read any text whatsoever). This is calculated though. When I finally do decide on a monitor (BenQ XL2720z, XL2730z, or XL2430T, unless I can be convinced otherwise), it's almost guaranteed to look amazing in all categories.

Good luck to you guys who are going to try and stick it out with a dac of sorts though! Hopefully latency isn't a killer.

wow a 10 year user :)

sorry to hear about the power supply. Have you posted on the FW900 thread on hardforum?

also, one user there reported that HDFury will be releasing an HDMI converter with 400 mhz ramdac once the price of one of the components goes down.

Here's the link:

I've heard good things about The Talos Principle. I just need to finish The Witness before I get that. (I'm so close, I'm stuck at the challenge at the end).
