If I want to play FPS competitively, how should I be set up?

Post by zehdah » 29 Jun 2022, 02:00

I have an Alienware AW2721d 1440p 240hz Gsync "ultimate" monitor and I'm wondering if I should follow the g sync guide for competitive shooters or turn everything off and uncap frame rate. For everything else I just do the usual Vsync on in control panel, off in game, G sync on, cap to 3 below refresh rate.

Capped with the normal gsync settings. Consistency is king and will be more beneficial than the negligible input lag reduction of completely uncapped and unsynced.

I think it really comes down to if you're okay with screen tearing to get a competitive advantage. And if you have a system that is capable of pushing high frame rates.

if you're consistently getting above 240fps, turn off G-sync and cap the fps to something above 240Hz.(preferably a 300fps cap or above)

Otherwise, use G-Sync.
