I fell in love with this VG258QM. Comparing to x25 f it looks mostly the same but Asus feels somehow even more responsive when playing Valorant and CSGO.

Picture taken 280fps, Variable OD level 3, 960pps, brightness 20, contrast 80, VRR off, ELMB off

Much better than VG259QM with AU panel, never had Qisda one on 259QM. This VG258QM has Qisda TN panel tho.

Im going to do some more amateur research tomorrow...

Edit. This monitor is giving me some satisfaction first time in a while.

Current monitors: G7 27", Omen X25 f, previous: Asus VG27AQ, VG259QM, LG GP850b, Acer XV27UKV, PG278QR, PG279Q, MG27Q, S2721DGF
Can you do more pursuits of '8QM? With ELMB ON at max Hz and 120Hz. Btw is overdrive locked with ELMB?

Also it would be great if u can test ELMB-SYNC (adaptive-sync ON). But for this better use Smooth Frog because TestUFO does not test VRR range propery. Let me know if u're interested so I can give you quick instructions for the program. It's very similar to TestUFO so it will be easy.

That will do the job. Thank you for doing these. I added them to database.

So Asus locked overdrive but not to aggressive level like on '9QM. Here it's the other way around, with not enough overdrive. They really don't know what they're doing hh.

For ELMB SYNC testing download latest version of Smooth Frog. Enable ELMB SYNC and Adaptive-Sync within OSD and inside nvidia or amd panel. Open Smooth Frog and quick test if VRR is working by using FPS Counter within monitor OSD, through Game Plus features. FPS should vary up/down as you change FPS limit slider in program.

In Smooth Frog leave vsync enabled for stability reasons. Use default pattern (Frog Pursuit, a bit bigger pattern than testufo) and stay inside pixel/frame panning type. Enable PCST (Sync Track) in menu (or with mouse wheel click). Now it will be best to do 280, 120 and 60 fps pursuits. Adjust panning speed until it reaches approximately 1440pps. Each framerate requires pixel/frame change. For 280 FPS it should be 5 pixels/frame (5*280=1400pps), for 120 its 12 pixels/frame (12*120=1440pps) and for 60 its 24ppf. Now do pursuits normally as you do. To start/stop panning use space key.

In the end it should look something like this. When I was doing these Smooth Frog didn't have proper Sync Track, but now it does.

Extra tip:
See if your camera can adjust shutter speed. For 280 use something closest to Hz/4 value. s1/70 for 280Hz, s1/30 for 120Hz, for 60 u can use s1/20 or s1/30 if your hands are too shaky.

Hopefully I didn't scare you with these instructions.

after game tests I have to say this monitor feels best when I turn freesync on and cap fps 275. Its very clear and smooth, according to Rtings inputlag difference is only 2.6ms vs 2.4ms. Can it be real or is it some sort of placebo?

After I set VRR on/280hz I get some screen blinking every ~15s when I switch to desktop from game. I did change 240hz and kept VRR on so blinking disappeared, is that normal? Just when I found good settings so this happened and made 280hz/VRR on unusable damn.

Edit. No flickering on 270hz and VRR on. Only with 280hz VRR on and desktop, not in the games.

Yeah VRR is great. Idk why people worry about input lag so much. Tearless gaming really is superior.

About the flicker, sometimes it can be fixed by adjusting VRR minimum range in CRU but im not sure if it will work for you. Its worth a try tho. Try increasing from 48 to 50+ or something like that. Also while you're in CRU make sure max range is 280 while at 280Hz input. Sometimes with amd gpu g-sync compatible monitors require this mod. VRR range is usually located here or here. Don't forget to restart after modding.

If this doesn't fix the blinking, pursuits from 270 fps and down will also be ok. Actually 120 fps pursuit is most important here.

So its common for these OC monitors to flicker max hz VRR on when they are natively 240hz?

Not specifically for OC but for VRR monitors in general. Gpu and buggy drivers can affect it too.

Ok thanks, rising lower 48hz to 50, 60, 80, 100 didnt solve the problem. I added v range 48-270hz and no flickering anymore. Now I can keep 280hz OC on and cap FPS 265fps for the games.

Than try 279 range max.
