Perhaps the best $313 you will spend on your rig! (UPDATE)

Post by sheepdog16 » 25 Jul 2014, 04:38

UPDATE #1:
Price is $329.99 now.

ORIGINAL:
I think that G-Sync and 4K monitors can wait for at least a week (that is if you do not have one yourself), as this sale is going on for about 6 days. So long as you don't have a G-Sync monitor or a 4K monitor, then I would highly recommend to get this monitor:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/111399828170?ss ... 1423.l2649. Best of all: Perfect Pixel! :D

I've owned this monitor myself for sometime, as well as the similar variants, and it is truly a great gaming monitor to have, especially at the price. I remember buying it about a year ago for over $800. The only reason I will not buy it is if you already have a G-Sync (like myself) or a 4K monitor.

Your welcome fellow gamers!

Lol, I remember when Green-Sum was shamelessly demanding, what was it? USD800-900 for pixel perfect versions of these

There is also an Overclockable IPS 120Hz 1440p Monitors FAQ on Blur Busters as well.

P.S. eBay is good, but would like to put in a friendly note - that clicking through the Blur Busters page goes to stores able to provide an easier warranty (as well as support Blur Busters at it too!).

That is quite right Black, and I shamelessly bought into it myself back then for $800 . Fortunately, I sold it for over $720 right before the prices started to go under $600 :D

There's also the fact that it's 6ms and there's surely additional lag as well.

Looks like pretty good specs but not quite the monitor to end all monitors.

Huge blur, unknown input lag, only 120Hz. No, thanks.

Oh, I am well aware that it is not the end all be all monitors. The one that I will be looking for the end all be all is the one that has an IPS Panel, G-Sync AND ULMB at the same time, and a 4K 120Hz monitor with 1ms GtG response, all within a 24" screen (I like 24" size for gaming).

What I think could work with the G-Sync and ULMB mode at the same time is perhaps to have a reasonable rig to maintain a consistent FPS within a range of 85 FPS - 120FPS since the ULMB modes run only at 85Hz, 100Hz, and 120Hz. I believe that Chief has mentioned that at around this high range of FPS numbers, the brightness levels hardly change in ULMB mode, so there wouldn't be any sort of noticable dimming/brightning as the FPS changes.

Regardless, it is still a great monitor to consider. And while it does have a rated 6ms GtG response, lag is still minimized thanks to having only one input DVI, and no built-in OSD or scalar.
And having personal experience with the monitor (along with the Overlord Variants as well), it feels very responsive, and very low input lag. The VG248QE G-Sync monitor that I'm rocking now has a little bit of less lag that I feel thanks to its TN panel properties and 1ms GtG response, but not enough to make me cringe about the lag on the Yamakasi variant at all.

:?: "Only 120Hz?" :?:

Umm . . . . . I presume that you mean that since it is not 144Hz capable like my VG248QE G-Sync monitor, then you are correct.

If you mean that in a negative fashion, that it needs like 200Hz+, well I don't know what to say to you my friend. 120Hz-144Hz is as good as it gets for the next few years at least, and 200Hz+ would be impracticable since running modern games at higher than 120FPS - 144FPS is hard as hell on the GPU and the CPU, and to have a noticable reduction in input lag from 120+ FPS to would have to be an exceptionally large increase. The decrease of input lag and smoothness from 30FPS to 60FPS is clearly noticable. The jump from 60FPS to 120FPS has noticably reduced input lag and greater smooth factor as well. See where I'm going with this? To go from 120FPS to xxxFPS would be an absolutely massive and impractical number.

Also, the amount of blur that the Yamakasi produces at 120Hz is hardly worse than my VG248QE G-Sync monitor without ULMB turned on. Since I owned the Yamakasi, I also felt that the input lag was not much worse than my VG248QE thanks to it having one input DVI, and no built-in scalar/OSD.

Now don't get me wrong, I cannot game somewhat competitively on shooters (BLOPS 2, BF4, TF2, Titanfall, Crysis 3 Muiltiplayer, etc.) at anything lower than 100FPS at least (120FPS ideally) because I feel the input lag and notice a lower smooth factor when going under 100FPS. But for some of the games that I am able to run at 144FPS, I can hardly tell the difference in terms of smoothness and input lag between 120FPS and 144FPS at their respective 120Hz and 144Hz refresh rates.

Yes, there is small part of players who running games at FPS much higher than refresh rate and difference 120Hz or 144Hz is noticeable for them. It's fast-paced FPS players who is playing for competitively years. Don't get me wrong, it's my opinion.

All those monitors has terrible contrast ratio and this is one reason from many more why we need badly a better technology (like oled or something else).
