How to make 960x540 resolution visible in games.

Post by Crazyness » 29 Mar 2023, 12:09

We all know by now,
that some games will not allow 960x540 resolution..

Most of them are under EAC(easyanticheat)

CSGO will Dota2 will..etc

Nvidia deleted that resolution from downscaling options..
also removed it from integer scaling option...
(can not be removed from integer scaling,it is biproduct of removing 960x540,
so integer will not work on 1080p by default, you can make it work)

So if you wanted to play on this particular resolution,
You will need to use CRU to delete all other resolutions and just leave 960x540.

And everything works as intended,well..NO.

this method creates 1 big drawback..

and that drawback is.. a situation where you need your native res,or any other res that you prefer..
for examle watching yt, movies, working..

so you need to have more resolutions in CRU than just 960x540..

Well problem is.. if you have any other resolution in CRU besides 960x540..

960x540 becomes invisible in game..

So before any gaming on 960x540,
you will need to use CRU to delete all other resolutions,
and when you had your fun and you want to do something else..
You will need to use CRU again and create new resolutions..
and... rinse and repeat..

quite annoying thingy to be honest..

i did it for couple of years like that :?

Even tried regedit UseBestResolution (default 1) change it to 0..same thingy..

stroke of luck i guess,
and i was in service menu on my 390hz..
checking some stuff..

and there is an option for changing DP(DisplayPort) version..
from 1.4(highest output)
to 1.1(lowest output)
there is also 1.2 option not relevant in this case..

so when you change your Dp version to lowest output..
all other resolutions will be ignored.

And you will only have 960x540 visible...

you finished your gaming sesion, enter the menu, switch DP version to highest output..
and Voila..all other, native and non-native resolutions are there..

TLDR:
DisplayPort 1-1.1a is able to output 144Hz at 1080p,
while 1.2-1.2a can output 1440p at 144Hz,
1.3 outputs up to 120Hz at 4K,
and 1.4 can output 144Hz at 4K using Display Stream Compression (DSC).

Use option to change DP version in your monitors menu,
if its not available in default menu, try service menu..
And you are good to go..

EDIT:
didnt test, but it should work with HDMI also..
just lower HDMI output to lowest..

for example:
from 2.1 or 2.0 to lowest available(1.0,1.1,1.2 etc)

If move 960x540 on top of detailed resolutions, is now forced to be the "native" of your monitor.

It makes no difference with the games that do not allow 960x540.

Only way to make it work is using the method with the lowest output signal on DP or HDMI.
