Need help to choose new monitor after 13 years

Post by Saiyag » 15 May 2023, 07:47

Hi, just like in the title. I'm looking to buy a new monitor.
I do often play CSGO and sometimes LoL that's why input lag and image clarity are determinant to me.
GPU: RTX 3060
Mainly I'm looking at ~24 inch, IPS, 240hz(or more if it's worth it).

My current top picks:
  • Alienware AW2523HF(~482$)
  • Dell S2522HG(~294$)
  • Samsung G40B(~313$)
  • MSI Oculux NXG253R(~530$)
(Would take ViewSonic XG2431 but it's sold out where I live. Simply looking for the most similar to this one.)

Worth to say is that I do care about price/value ratio so I don't want to spend for ex. 150$ more for something identical to lower priced monitors
I'm questioning myself if 360hz is worth that price?

I will appreciate any recommendations and advices to make my decision much easier.

@edit;
Actually I've found out XG2431 for the price of 485 dollars. Is it worth that price?

Same boat except I play Quake. I was told by someone that IPS panels still are inferior to top TN panels, so not sure what to buy. Im still on an XG2401, so that's a bit more recent but still, I would like an upgrade. Get better colors while not sacrificing quake performance.

Sorry to complicate decision making, but:

At 240Hz vs 240Hz, the best IPS is on par with TN. A well-tuned IPS can outperform an inferior TN -- I take great pride how well the XG2431 was tuned.

It's when 360Hz that the newer "fast TN" panels leapfrogs over IPS again.

Now, if you don't mind a couple milliseconds more lag, 240Hz OLED has better motion clarity than 240Hz LCD, if you don't use strobing. 240Hz OLED can outperform the vast majority of 360Hz LCD in non-strobed motion clarity. It's very efficient motion clarity per Hz.

If lowest lag is numero uno, then get a 500+ Hz LCD and call it a day. Even your low "200 frames per second" will blast over the DisplayPort cable in a mere 1/500sec. 240-vs-500 is more noticeable than 240-vs-360 and 360-vs-500.

Thank you for your reply.
Sad to be said OLED's are way over my budget(cheapest 1340$). I'm currently using 60Hz TN panel so probably every upgrade will be noticable.
But like I said before I can go for compromises about input lag if that product will get better price-value ratio.

What do you think about Asus VG249QM1A in comparison to Dell S2522HG? I'm thinking seriously about going for that Asus since it looks like good value for its price. The problem is that I couldn't find any ufo tests and input lag tests.

Also I've found Acers XV252QF monitor for cheap(430$) from outlet but I don't know how it will work with games that I can achieve ~60hz max. I did some research and saw that it has bad input lag while working on these frequency but still I'm not sure if this will be noticable to that point when it becomes frustrating.

I was looking at VG249QM1A but that guy that used to review monitors said imagine quality is even worse than TNs which I was shocked since I expected any IPS do do better.

I would go OLED but im waiting a year or so before I jump in since I want to see how good OLEDs perform after daily usage for a couple of years, so if pixels are going on fire by then then I will buy the newer monitors, hopefully something along the lines of 25" is released because I find 27" a bit too big.
