ViewSonic XG2431 vs Acer Nitro 390hz

Post by Beroris » 01 Jun 2023, 18:17

These are the two monitors I am looking at rn but I cant decide between the clarity of the XG2431 or the extra hz of the Acer Nitro. After doing some research I'm getting a lot of mixed opinions and I'll probably get lots of mixed opinions here too but I want to try narrow down what each monitor is better at. I play OW2, Apex, Valorant and CS currently. In Val I can get over 390fps 90% of the time but in Apex that game is hard capped at 300 anyway(I don't think I can reach this all the time anyway) and OW2 I get over 390fps some of the time but during fights I'm closer to around 300fps(ish). So what is the Acer like vs the XG2431 at these framerates. Also what is the Acer like overall without using BFI because I've heard BFI is bad at framerates lower than refresh rate because of double-imaging. The performance of the XG2431 seems good even without BFI but if I found the brightness usable for BFI on the XG2431 I intend to use it for most games(maybe not Apex, not sure about performance there yet and I usually cap my fps there because of stutters). Is freesync worth using on either of the two monitors.

Anyone that has used both which did you prefer and end up using? All responses greatly appreciated.

both are not bright enough with BFI in my opinion. so if you want a good monitor with BFI, xl2566k is the best choice.

I did not have XG2431 but I did use Acer Nitro for a few days and the monitor with BFI was smooth, however activating BFI lowered the brightness way too much and I could barely see anything. Since competitive games require a decent level of brightness so you actually see your enemies, I cannot suggest any of those two.

If you don't care about brightness then both are great choices for sure. If you don't care about BFI, 390 hz is significantly smoother than 240 hz. Even with BFI off on my XL2566k, I can feel the difference coming from a 240 hz monitor.

xl2566k looks amazing but its out of my budget.
my current monitor has an advertised 400nits brightness and I have no difficulty using it at 50% brightness even during this somewhat sunny day with my blinds mostly opened I find it well usable.

I have the same question between the two monitors. I have hardware capable of 390+fps in Valorant (my main game), but I feel like I'm very sensitive to motion blur. Would Acer's BFI be enough for that? I know the XL2566K would be the best of both worlds, but it costs more than twice the price of the other two, and I can't believe it's more than "twice as good" as they are.

I have the acer aopen 390hz monitor, have used the xg2431 for about a month and also the XL2566k for about a month too. Here are my thoughts.

The XG2431 is a great monitor. However, it is not quite as fast(obviously) as the acer 390hz or xl2566k. The Acer 390hz will feel faster and smoother. I noticed the difference in game. The XL2566k has the same sort of smooth feel of the acer 390hz, maybe even more smoother. 240hz xg2431 was not quite as smooth and fast compared to the acer 390hz or xl2566k.

The XG2431 will be slightly more crisp image due to it being a 24in vs 24.5 on the acer 390hz. The Purexp on xg2431 is a little on the dim side, but seemed decent. The XL2566k obviously has the best strobing. I didnt really use strobing much on the xg2431. The strobing on the acer 390hz seems somewhat pointless to me. The monitor is so fast, I almost dont think there is a benefit to using strobing on the acer 390hz. I barely can tell a difference personally. I leave strobing disabled most of the time.

I think the motion handling was perhaps slightly better on the xg2431 over the acer 390hz. But then the acer feels faster and smoother because there is more information being refreshed.

I paid $200 for the acer 390hz, $300 for the xg2431 and around $700 for the zowie xl2566k/ I ultimately returned the xg2431 but, I did like it. I also returned the xl2566k. Its a good monitor, but $700 for a TN panel just for slightly better strobing is not worth it imo.

Thank you friend, once again for your information. Are you currently only with the Acer 390hz? In clarity of motion, would you rate XL2566K > XG2431 > Acer 390hz? How much worse is one in relation to the other in this regard, how would you classify it? And regarding "mouse responsiveness" would you put XL2566K > Acer 390hz (very close) > XG2431?

The promotion of the XG2431 in my country is over, and now the cheapest of the three is the Acer 390hz, which is the only one being sold here, because they stopped exporting here. It is used, but the seller assured that it has no problem, without any dead or stuck pixel, I'm thinking of getting it, to leave my AW2518HF as a secondary monitor.
