(Introduction/)Best Monitor for 1440p Warzone Build?

Post by HarryDrews » 22 Feb 2024, 11:17

Hello all -

I wanted to quickly introduce myself and share how much this forum has helped me. I first discovered BlurBusters with my dad while researching a good monitor in high school for Quake and Doom (over a decade ago.. ended up going with the holy BB-certified 1080p ViewSonic). The wealth of knowledge here is unmatched, and it's crazy to me how much I genuinely appreciate that. These forums and gaming in general are large reasons that guided me to study Comp Sci in undergrad. Just wanted to share that, and how much I respect these forums.

Okay, now to my question:
I just finished a PC gaming build for Warzone. I'm looking to get the lowest input latency possible at 1440p with FPS hovering around 200-205. I don't anticipate using 4k at all, and I generally stick to Warzone 1440p.. with a rare exception in using 1080p for Counter-Strike. I hope to spend $1000 or less. Is there a particular, conclusive monitor currently in the market that fits my user-profile? And what specs should I realistically anticipate?

My specs are:
-Intel Core i7-14700K
-NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super
-32GB DDR5 6000MT/s Memory
-2TB NVMe SSD

Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated : )

Cheers
-HD

I would say go for the PG27AQDM. However, this is around $1300 USD, so the next best thing for probably be the PG27AQN https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-pg27a ... Id=6544780 which is currently $918 on sale.

However, if this is also too expensive especially since it's 360hz and not 240hz then the HP Omen X 27 will probably be your best bet.

Thanks for this. I've recently read about the 27GR95QE-B as well. There seemed to be a lot of hype around the LG Ultragear 27" OLED, but discussions are a bit dated now. Where does this monitor sit?

That was one of the first OLED monitors that came out back in late 2022. I would avoid it since it can't get as bright as the ASUS one.

I just came upon the 27GR95QE-B. Discussions on the LG Ultragear 27" OLED, which were formerly highly anticipated, have become rather out of date. Tell me where I can get this monitor.

Costco online has it in-stock. May not be the absolute best price, but costco has a great return policy, plus $100 credit

Thoughts on the Alienware (below) vs the the Asus?

Alienware 27 360Hz QD-OLED Gaming Monitor - AW2725DF. I'm reading good reviews and tests online

Any thought or input is greatly appreciated.

The only OLED i'd consider is the MPG 271QRX due to 1440p@360hz HDMI output without DSC (supposedly, a firmware update is coming for this), but you're still stuck with potential subpixel layout issues and scanline logic flicker issues, not to mention VRR being unusable.
If you want to play it safe, PG27AQN is the best 1440p LCD display on the market, especially in a game like Warzone where you dip fps.
Run it at 1440p@240hz (to keep DSC off) and run G-Sync on and enjoy.

I don't think OLED monitors in general are 'ready' yet. Especially since their subpixel layout isn't suitable for desktop usage. If you really want the best colours possible, but don't care about crisp looking text on desktop usage, then go for the OLED. Bare in mind, you will probably replace it within 3-4 years due to how fast OLED monitors are improving.

I would personally go with the ASUS, especially since it has an easy to use 25" setting/mode on it (granted, you can do something similar in the Nvidia Control Panel, but still) and a backlight strobe setting on the newer firmware, not to mention it being slightly cheaper as well. The PG27AQN will be a great monitor for many years, and you get the best of the both worlds with a nice looking desktop and games.

That being said, given it's an IPS panel, IPS glow for the panel I tried was somewhat noticable and panel uniformity on the left and right top corners was also disappointing. Meaning that they were slightly darker than what they should have been. At the end of the day, you just have to try one of these monitors and see what works best for you.
