Disable or Detect DSC?

Post by KarmaCase » 28 Mar 2024, 00:48

Anyone know if there is a way to disable DSC on your monitor or at least detect whether it's enabled or not? I've been having some strange issues that I think are related to DSC, but I can't even troubleshoot it because I can't be sure whether it's even enabled or not or how to disable it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the monitor allow you to choose the DisplayPort version? If you set it to 1.2, DSC should be disabled and you won't be able to select the maximum refresh rate at the highest possible resolution anymore.

What GPU are you using? If it's Nvidia, you can tell that DSC is used if you can't use DLDSR or NIS.

to disable DSC, the monitor must support the option

to know if is enabled or know, you just look at the connection you are using and the bandwidth you are requiring from the gpu

DP 1.4? 240hz 8bit, 10 bit will use DSC

hdmi 2.1, 315hz on 10 bit, more will use DSC

not always true, for example the PG27AQDM let the user use DLDSR with DSC enabled at 240 10bit while other monitors with the same panel can't do it.

Unless you select DLDSR from the desktop and then start the game to still have all of the goodies like Gsync which also refuses to work by then.
[At least I think that was DSC related...]
CPU: AMD R7 5800x3D ~ PBO2Tuner -30 ~ no C states
RAM: Gskill Bdie 2x16gb TridentZ Neo ~ CL16-16-16-36 1T ~ fine tuned latency
GPU: ASUS TUF 3080 10G OC Edition(v1/non-LHR) ~ disabled Pstates ~ max oced

I've been trying to find a way for a while now too. My monitor allows you to disable DSC for DP, but not for HDMI. Well, the HDMI port is full bandwidth 2.1, 48Gpbs. Which should support my 1440P 240Hz monitor without DSC. I assume it's off, but if it's not, I may as well use DP.
Thankfully my panel supports GSync over HDMI and DP so everything works even if DSC is active.

The DLDSR trick doesn't work all the time. https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/nvidia-ds ... -sometimes
I can use DLDSR when DSC is active with my combo. A 4070FE with a LG 27GR83Q-B, at 1440P 240Hz and 10bit color with HDR active, no issues.

To troubleshoot your issue, try 60Hz. DSC should be negotiated in the handshake only when necessary.
