Is it a big deal you can't disable DSC on the FO32U2P?

The FO32U2P is one of the first monitors with DP 2.1. You can't disable DSC through the monitor's OSD. Assuming the nvidia 5 series has DP 2.1 UHBR20 support and you use a certified DP 2.1 cable, will you be able to run this monitor without DSC? In other words, will the monitor detect that DSC is not needed and just turn it off automatically so that it doesn't need to be manually disabled in the OSD?

Since avoiding DSC is one of the main reasons why DP 2.1 exists, it's safe to assume that it won't be used if the GPU supports DP 2.1.

I just got this monitor and I have a 5080. I think it is a big deal that we can't disable DSC on the monitor because I have no idea if it is on or not. I want to test cables and see if it's worth using a Vesa DP80 certified cable, and I don't know because DP 1.4 cables seem to work fine but that's probably because it is enabling DSC with them.

I won't even know if DSC is still enabled when using a certified cable because there seems to be no way to see in windows or on the monitor. I don't know what the default Nvidia behaviour is either. Nvidia could be auto enabling DSC for all supported displays, and we just wouldn't know. This means I could just be wasting money getting the U2P instead of the much cheaper U2 and also wasting money on a cable that isn't needed.

I looks like Nvidia always uses DSC unless the display doesn't support it (if the display has an option to disable DSC, then that counts as "not supported" from the GPU's point of view.)

Yes I think so. I read that it might not be possible to disable DSC except for in monitor firmware so it seems it is the Monitors responsibility and not something that AMD or NVidia can do even if they wanted to. Perhaps the monitor firmware does check if the link speed is sufficient and does disable DSC but without an identifier or toggle on the monitor it is not possible to know.

The monitor advertises "4K at 240Hz and 8K at 60Hz uncompressed images" so I have asked for confirmation from Gigabyte about this because otherwise it is false advertising.

A big issue is that there are cables for sale and the user can't determine if they are running with or without DSC so this allows unscrupulous sellers to falsely advertise cables as 80 Gbps, and most customers would never know.

I haven't found a way to see the link speed on a Nvidia GPU in any software on Windows but I was able to see the link speed of my cables in Linux. I can see that my new VESA Certified DP80 Cable is indeed running at the correct speed, but I don't know if the monitor is disabling DSC.
