Buying a 2nd hand display. Tips and checks to be sure its OK

Post by karl_azytzeen » 03 Nov 2015, 19:08

Hi all!

This is my second post, before asking again for your knowledge.
I finally ended finding what i was looking for... A really really nice monitor.

At this point i just found a good second hand offer wich is my only path to get a premium display. Im talking about the Benq XL2720Z, but this can be applied to any other screen.

Which things i should look at?
Obviously, what im thinking just now
-Check that there is no scratches on the display (look from diferent angles and lights to be sure)
-Check with some screen colour test that there is no dead or zombie pixel.
-Check that the bezel, rear parts and so are ok with no cracks or broken parts.

But what i dont know how to do some other checks, in a fast way.
How i can check that there is no dust inside the screen (or any fly! LOL).
How to check the backlight uniformity or any other backlight issues?
How can i be sure that there are no problem with the inputs?
How can i veryfy banding issues (i had read something about some defective units that has grey band at some frecuencies)?
Any other thing you can think about...?

Thanks again

Q.How i can check that there is no dust inside the screen (or any fly! LOL)?
A.All white background and look at it from different angles.

Q.How to check the backlight uniformity or any other backlight issues?
A.All black background and you will see backlight bleed easy.

Q.How can i be sure that there are no problem with the inputs?
A.Bring your own cables that you know are good and test with either sellers computer or pick up a small pc with a video card with all ports you need to work.

Q.How can i verify banding issues?
A.You could try this website. http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php
