Asus VG248QE x MG248Q x BenQ XL2411Z

Post by Sef » 19 Jul 2017, 12:37

Hi!

I'm buying a new monitor, primarly focused on gaming (144Hz, 1ms, low input lag...).
I usually play emulators, 2D platformers, fighting games, FPS...So, a lot of stuff between 60fps and 144fps+.

My real doubt right now is to choose between these 3:
Asus VG248QE
- Does have the possibility to use Strobelight
- Heard complaints about the colors, but there is some calibrations that 'fix' it

Asus MG248Q
- Updated version of VG248QE (?)
- Flicker-free
- Can't really be sure if lightboost is possible
- Heard complaints about the colors too. Specially if running at 144Hz

BenQ XL2411/XL2411Z
- Can be used with Strobe Utility
- Input lag little higher than the Asus's models
- Complaints about the colors as well. That is even worst than Asus

I've found VG248QE and MG248Q with similar prices and XL2411 a little more expensive.

Which one should I get to have a smooth experience either playing at 60fps or at 120/144fps?

Thanks in advance! 8-)

Comments:
- XL2411Z is now replaced by Zowie XL2411
- VG248QE has PWM, I think it's 864Hz PWM at 144Hz when dimmed below 100% brightness.
- XL2411/XL2411Z is flicker-free like MG248Q.
- If blur reduction is important, strobing lag on XL2411/XL2411Z is much lower than VG248QE LightBoost.
- MG248Q has FreeSync

All 3 monitors have equally smooth experience at 60Hz (looks like a 60Hz monitor when playing at 60Hz). So I'd compare based on other attributes (lag, quality of ghosting, color quality, FreeSync, blur reduction quality, etc). The main 60Hz distinction is that the older XL2411Z supports single-strobe 60Hz if you like flickery CRT-style zero-blur 60Hz, however. However, I heard the latest Zowie XL2411 might have disabled 60Hz single-strobe (I'm not currently sure -- it's hard to keep track of all the dozens of firmwares), though they are still firmware downgradeable to older BenQ firmwares if need be.

I'm sure they are all nice. The mg248q has excelent input lag and response time as measured by tftcentral
