When you look at the screen dead-on, perfectly centered, and it's not too close to you, the difference between a good TN and an IPS is somewhat subtle and difficult to see.

You only get noticeable differences once you start to move your head a bit or have the monitor close to you.

(The above doesn't apply to portrait mode. Portrait mode on TN is so bad, it should be declared illegal.)

I just picked up the XB252Q thanks to BlurBuster's results regarding G-sync being input lag being negligible, I was interested in giving it a try. For Quake Champions and Overwatch, 238 capped G-Sync is great!

Specifically for PUBG, since the game never goes above 144FPS and drops into the 100FPS range at times with a 1080 Ti, should I be running G-Sync on or off? I noticed in the couple of games I got in yesterday before maintenance it's relatively smooth but does stutter sometimes with G-Sync on.

Also as an aside, with my Dell and Asus monitors I can clearly see in the OSD or with a light change that G-Sync is enabled and running. Does the XB252Q have any such function?

Yes, leave G-SYNC enabled in PUBG, as that is the best scenario to use it in (fluctuating frames below the refresh rate).

G-SYNC can't remove all stutter. It only prevents the stutter caused by V-SYNC when it repeats a frame below the refresh rate, nothing else. See my paragraph here about frametime spikes to read about most of the causes of stutter (which G-SYNC can do nothing about):
http://www.blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync1 ... spikes-101

The XB252Q has a refresh rate meter you can activate via OSD > Refresh rate num > On. If it's fluctuating during a game, G-SYNC is active and working, if it's static, G-SYNC isn't active, or you don't have a framerate limit in place and the framerate is exceeding your refresh rate, in which case, G-SYNC is also active.

Hi, does anyone have any thoughts on the Acer XF270HA, a 27" 240hz panel ?

So 3 weekends later I decided to go back to 144hz(no Dyac) and did some testing, going back from 240hz to 144hz is really noticeable, fast movements are much more smooth and nice feeling. Even when just doing straightforward cone style tracing aim (quake LG or Overwatch Soldier76) the 240hz felt much more smooth and nice. I turned on DYAC with 144hz to test and I felt it slightly better but still nowhere near the 240hz/Dyac combo I have been playing on. I would not want to go back to 144hz for anything at all, not 27inch 1440p, not 4k. It is just night and day difference after putting in a good 100 hours playtime in various games. I tested 2546 on 144hz, not my old 2411Z though I'm sure 2546 Is better at 144hz then it anyway.

Now I will try and test Blur Busters again since It could only get better, my reaction before was that it wasn't really noticeable but I did controlled tests and didn't actually just play games.

I would still say you don't need one 100% if you already have a 144hz but if you're buying a new screen then there's no reason not to unless you are a poor student on a tight budget.

Acer is a big no no based on what I've read the reviews, It has terrible black ghosting/blur on objects during basic movements, its a major flaw which is pretty astonishing. If you look longer and google for forum results you will find better examples but the black tearing and trail happens everywhere

Anyone tested alienware aw2518h ? It's a bit more expensive and I like the design.
I've watched some reviews and there is NO gamma setting in osd. So there is a possibility it's set as badly as s24 and s27 models.

There is a solid review for AOC AG251FG and gamma is about 2.2 as one of the settings.
Asus PG258Q is also more expensive and one gamma is about 2.1-2.3 but it have a bit better overdrive than AOC.

Wow just looked at the review of the AG251FG from pcmonitors.info. The prusiut pictures look good. Looks like an imporvement over aoc's last 240hz. May even be better than the other 240hz monitors in terms of motion blur but that is impossible to know without objective measurements by the same review site. Either way looks up to par with the best. In terms of the PG258Q's gamma it was reviewed to have a slightly lower default gamma than 2.2. And I can confirm through use that using the on screen setting of "2.4 gamma" is my prefered configuration. According to tftcentral, this gets you a gamma of 2.2.

No experience with the alienware monitor, looking up more info now.

Thanks.
From the reviews it looks like Asus have better overdrive/motion blur but it's not a big difference that way or another.
Both screens seem excellent but aoc is 100$ cheaper here so I might gravitate towards it.

also - happy to finally see monitors manufacturers include some kinda of gamma settings. Dell/Alienware still does not have this apparently. I've looked up a review of alienware 240hz and it lacks any gamma settings.

Agreed. The monitors gamma setting probably uses something like voltage or current offset so you dont lose any bit depth that might introduce more banding like software gamma adjustments do sometimes.
