2015 Samsung un55js9000 locked to 60hz?

Post by kineticninja » 30 Nov 2017, 19:30

Hey guys

trying to enable my samsung un55js9000 hdtv to display at 120hz but when I plug my pc in using HDMI 2.0 (amazon basics hdmi cable) it is only showing only 60 hz options (and lower) regardless of whichever resolution I select to preview in the Nvidia Control Panel

My tv's LED panel is 120 hz native which upconverts to 240hz internally and my PC's graphics card itself is a ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080

I am hoping to be able to run 1440p resolution at 120 hz or at least 90 hz if possible.... Which from what I read should be possible with my current hardware (gtx 1080, un55js9000 3D 120hz 4k LED tv, and hdmi 2.0)?

I read that HDMI 2.0 should be capable of running 1440p at around 90hz and I've seen a few people who have those settings using their HDTVs but for whatever reason I am not seeing ANY options for refresh rates above 60hz even when I try to set LOWER resolutions (1080p, 720p, etc only shows 60hz and lower)....

My HDTV set is advertised as a 4k (3840 × 2160) 120 hz native/240hz motion rate 3D curved led display as I mentioned so I dont see any reason why it wouldnt be capable of providing 1440p at 90hz or at the very least 1080p at true 120hz especially since it is a one of their flagship 3D tv sets for 2015.

I tried setting it on PC mode to see if this had any effect but I still did not see any options which enabled 120 hz on any of the resolutions that are supported.

I attempted to set custom resolutions through Nvidia control panel using 120hz (also tried 119hz, 75 hz, etc) but the TV just goes black and I have to restart my PC in order for the settings to revert

even INTERNAL sources through the smart TV Apps like Netflix, Hulu, etc also do not display 120 hz when I check the refresh rates pressing the info button on the TVs remote control (it displays 4K/60p regardless of the input or source connected to it)

Is there any way I can bypass this 60hz lock? I dont understand why they would advertise the TV has a true 120 hz led panel with 240 hz motion rate if it is in fact locked to 60hz on every input?????

The whole reason I bought this TV was because it was advertised as true 120 hz led panel

Somebody please help! I'm really hoping that I'm not S.O.L

I would have loved to connect using DisplayPort outputs on my GTX 1080 but unfortunately my Samsung HDTV does not have support for that particular input.

Here is a link to the owners manual of my TV in case this help - http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/conte ... 4-0819.pdf

Resolution and Refresh Rates that are supported by the TV are shown on page 166
