Any issues using 240hz in desktop all the time?

Post by idred » 01 Dec 2017, 18:32

I have a 240Hz monitor and was going to leave the monitor at 240hz in desktop. I was wondering if maybe it isn't worth it like it will just strain the video card or monitor.

Or does not not really matter, if you have a 240hz monitor then use 240hz in desktop.

I'm using a 1080ti

Thanks

No issues. I use it almost a year.

You can, though you should take a look at your GPU clocks. Does it clock down to idle? If not, then you're running full clocks and highest voltages on the GPU 24/7 for no good reason.

120Hz makes more sense for the desktop overall though. Like 240Hz, it can play back 24FPS, 30FPS and 60FPS video perfectly (since 120 is a whole multiple of all these frame rates, meaning no frame skips.) So overall, you don't gain anything when running 240Hz on the desktop. The only exception is 48FPS video, but that is a very rare video frame rate.

240Hz will be smoother and clearer than 120Hz when you scroll, drag windows, move the mouse, watch animations running at fps = hz, ...

Yep. Very noticeable. 240Hz is already halfway to turning on ULMB (without needing to turn it on).
