Question about 240hz Monitor

Hi,
I have a new 240hz 1080p monitor but am still using a GTX 750 ti. I have a GTX 1070 ti on order.
Maybe its a graphics card limitation. When i set the refresh rate to 240hz in the Nvidia menu the desktop starts blinking like crazy. I am using Display Port.
Is the problem with the old card? 144hz works.
200hz does not work either.
