xl2540 overshoot purple and green

Post by ahmedpc03 » 24 Feb 2018, 11:59

Hi

i bought xl2540 couple days ago

this is my first tn panel, and i am very happy to play games with it cause its have very minimum ghosting

but Recently i noticed in browsing the internet, text overshoot, sometimes purple and sometimes green it depends on the texts background, nothing noticeable in gaming

my settings is almost default

picture mode standard
brightness 50
contrast 50
colors normal

my question is, is this normal for this monitor ?

You can fix this by going into the FACTORY MENU and changing the Overdrive Gain setting to a lower value. I think something around 30-3F will work better.

Overdrive artifacts are unfortunately a fact of life for many gaming monitors.

However, the overdrive is adjustable, trading one effect for a different effect.

You can also try dimming the whites slightly (reduce "Contrast" a tiny bit), as reduced dynamic range fixes a lot of overdrive overshoot issues for white backgrounds. Use different profiles for games versus Windows.

Hi Chief,
That was necessary on the older Z series monitors.
On the XL2735, (XL2730 only had limited adjustments), XL2540 and XL2546, you can adjust Overdrive Gain between 00-255, with 255 looking as awful as the old (V2 Benq) enabling AMA after blur reduction was enabled (Remember that? LONG LONG ago, before "AMA low" Got added in V3 firmware?), and 00 being no overdrive at all basically. So contrast adjustments are not really needed now.

Unfortunately i don't think the OD gain setting persists after a refresh rate change however, and you have to change it again.

No one knows how. Linux? Probably impossible unless flashrom is updated to support the new chips. It MAY be possible but 1) no one has tried, 2) no one knows the flashrom ID of the chips or if flashrom supports them, 3) no one has dumped the raw firmware files to begin with; you can't upgrade if the firmwares are not available for download.

No one also knows if the flashers like the RT809F or other flashers which could allow flashing over the HDMI port would work or not. Someone was able to dump a firmware of the XL2730 with the RT809F, but were unable to flash it back due to a verify error.

If you are already on Firmware V2+, I don't think it is worth the risk of further upgrading.

Currently, the Linux method of upgrade is the most popular method at the moment, since it doesn't require any device.
