Yes, I know we want OLED desktop computer monitors, but this is still exciting too!

It seems it's finally coming. Real VR.

Now as to what kind of monster GPU that hasn't been invented yet is needed for this, is another question.

I wonder if they are going to use live resolution scaling to support this on other cards besides the 1080TI :P Even at half the res it's still more then the original and the screendoor would be TINY.

Lol, did you make this 8bit looking image?

I had to make clipart quickly because of the breaking news. The closest thing was to take a random VR headset clipart I had in the site, posterize it to 8bit to represent having been ancient/surpassed compared to this new OLED.

No VR headset exists yet with this OLED, and it definitely isn't the existing Google Daydream headset, which is the default clipart other news used for this. :)

I wonder how long it will be before this hits the market and if future versions of the rift and vive will get these panels.

I suspect it'll become available to other vendors sooner than later.

Being LG, it will undoubtedly filter to other vendors such as Oculus and HTC.

I imagine Google may be doing something about it first, though.

Getting that resolution at 120fps may require various forms of Frame Rate Amplification Technology (FRAT), including future descendants of Oculus' asynchronous spacewarp method of nearly laglessly converting 45fps to 90fps.

Even if you ran it at half resolution it would still be better than current generation headsets with less of a screen door effect.
