Best display to pair with GTX1070?

Post by Kosmos » 05 Aug 2018, 04:05

Hello everyone I'm about to make a major monitor purchase and not sure which 1080p to go with.

ASUS PG248Q 180hz Gsync, ULMB
BENQ XL2546 240hz DyAC
ASUS XG258Q / Alienware AW2518Hf 240hz Freesync, ULMB

Cheaper: BenQ XL2411P 144hz Blur Reduction

Most of my use is competitive gaming and media running on GTX1070 and i7-7700HQ. My framerate usually hovers around 100~ 160~ highest at lowest settings in PUBG and Fortnite. I currently use a 60hz monitor and it's pretty awful there's a lot of blurring and tearing and the image feels like a slideshow instead of a fluid moving world.

Which would be the optimal monitor in this case? My priority is having a fluid seamless image, no motion blur, and low input lag. The first three displays are around the same price where I am. I can also go for the budget XL2411P if it is already just as good.

I created an account just to tell you this, Avoid the Benq XL2411P at all cost. this monitor doesn't feel like a true 144Hz monitor at all. I've been gaming on TN panels my entire life and the slightly washed out TN colors is not a problem but when a monitor tries to show details in dark areas which are not supposed to be shown, it makes the image look extremely bland, enemies on the xl2411p are not visible at all because they are blended in with the environment due to the lack of depth in the image. I swear this monitor has more input lag than my old 75 Hz Asus Vx228H i could tell the difference when flying helicopters in BF4, the bad overdrive implementation on this monitor alone is why should never buy this monitor. Don't get fooled by the fact that this monitor is new cause it's running a panel from 2011. so if you can't afford high-end Benq monitors or the AOC G2460PG, buy the Asus VG248QE.

As per my experience I can certainly point out that BENQ display is not actually up to the mark, I agree with boomchakadah on this.

Is the XL2411P really that bad? I was actually going to make it my choice because it was so cheap at a nearby store now I'm having second thoughts.

I thought they updated it a bit along with adding a Displayport? That's pretty disappointing, I was lead to believe it was somewhat good since it was the official monitor for the PGI 2018 PUBG Tournament so all the pros played on it.

Since you said "my priority is having a fluid seamless image, no motion blur, and low input lag" you'd be looking at a g-sync monitor. The XL2411P doesn't qualify for that.

What g-sync monitor would you recommend?

The LG 32GK850G seems to be good. It's a VA panel and thus excellent for media too, not just games. It's 165Hz.

It's probably the monitor I would buy right now (if I didn't already have a 165Hz g-sync monitor, even though mine is IPS, not VA.)

However, it's 1440p, not 1080p, and it's 31.5". 1440p is a rather good match for a 1070 though. And the extra screen size makes it really good for movies and immersive gaming.

You can find a pcmonitors.info review (a trusted reviewer) here:

The monitor I have is a 27" 1440p IPS g-sync. I also recommend it, if you can still find it for sale.

If you currently use a TN monitor, this part of the IPS monitor review actually applies to both IPS and VA monitors, and shows what kind of advantages you get in image quality compared to TN (the difference is obvious even through a youtube video, and is more obvious in real life when you're actually seated in front of the monitor):

I'm going to keep the GTX1070 for at least a couple years so I prefer a 1080p display to extend its life longer (and keep it cheap). I'm also limited to 24-26" because of desk space.

Kosmos, if you're looking for a budget 144Hz monitor and you play fps games, the Asus VG248QE is still the fastest and best-looking budget 144Hz screen on the market. you can also go for the Benq XL2536 if you have $100 more to spend and it's currently on sale for $50 off on amazon.

It doesn't support g-sync.
