Viewsonic XG2530

Post by boykale » 21 Jan 2019, 06:21

Hello. I bought a brand new Viewsonic XG2530 3 weeks ago. I RMA'd it and got a new one due to dead pixel problem and some lighting problem which is more visible when the background is black. There is whitish-bluish light at the bottom of monitor when the background is black. It's like a strip which is visible along with bottom frame of monitor. I think it's called light leak or something like that. The new monitor has no deadpixel but it also has this lighting issue. Is this common in this monitor or should I RMA it again?

That doesn't sound normal at all to me. For any monitor.

How can update firmware of XG2530? I read some forums and it seems like there is a firmware update for this monitor to fix frameskipping problem.

Are you sure there's frameskipping on your XG2530? They fixed it perfectly more than a year ago, so anything you buy today or RMA will already have fixed frameskipping already.

Please test www.testufo.com/frameskipping

If you are unlucky to have an early 2017-era XG2530 before all their frameskipping was fixed shortly after release (thanks to my help to them), there's an alternative software solution via ToastyX Custom Resolution to make the frameskipping disappear, without the need for a firmware upgrade.

Monitors don't have upgradable firmware (with a very few exceptions, and the XG2530 is not one of them.) You need to get a unit with new firmware if the one you have an older unit. But as Chief said, you should test first to see if you do have a unit that frame skips.

Fixed that for you.

While helping manufacturers, I've done firmware upgrades of monitors normally not designed for firmware upgrades, but often required either an NDA tool that was complicated, or required a custom dongle (like MSTAR ISP for BenQ Zowie).

The XL2720Z was never designed to be user upgradeable but the complaints of convinced BenQ Zowie to make the necessary modifications for Blur Busters Strobe Utility compatibility, and enable end-user strobe tuning -- a first in gaming monitors.

Yes, your display seems to be frame skipping. This counts as a defect and is reason to RMA.

I checked the monitor's date of manufacture and it's 2017-08-07. Do you guys know that when they fixed the frameskipping issue?
