LG 24GM77 120Hz>144Hz

Post by Jfe » 25 Jan 2019, 19:23

Hello guys, I need help to figure out something about this monitor.

After I bought better PC I started using 144Hz before I was playing with 120Hz. I play CSGO mainly. The problem is that on 144Hz it seems like there is huge input lag like sometimes it doesnt registre everything whats going on in the game and my moves. There was often situation that I stopped and started shoting but shots was going like I would be still in run. That doesnt happened on 120Hz at all so...

I have GTX 760, i5-8600k and my fps are above 250. I use default settings for Nvidia drivers. I don't use monitor drivers but I didn't saw difference with and without for problem described (tested).

May be this info can be helpful I found 144Hz uses nvidia scaling while 120Hz does scaling by monitor. Like when I use 120Hz and I change in monitor menu proportions from wide to orginal this does apply on the screen.

Let me try to help you diagnose:

1. Do you see any frameskipping at www.testufo.com/frameskipping
Please take a photo of this.

2. Do you have a setting named "Dynamic Action Sync" enabled or disabled?

3. Do you cap your framerate in CS:GO? (e.g. fps_max)

4. What resolution and scaling modes are you using for 144Hz? For 120Hz?

Ad 1. First link is for 144Hz.

and this is for 120Hz

Ad 2.Yes on both refresh rates I have DAS on.

Ad 3. My fps_max is 300 and I don't change it.

Ad 4. My ingame resolution is 1600x900. Scaling mode default in Nvidia and It's aspect ratio for both.

Hmmm. Interesting. And you're getting GPU scaling occuring for 144Hz, and monitor scaling for 120Hz?

How did you confirm whether GPU scaling is occuring?

For example I change my resolution to 1280x960. For 144Hz it always has blackbars and changing Ratio settings in monitor menu doesn't affect it. When I change to 120Hz I have black bars on top and bottom of screen and changing from Wide to Original in monitor menu does apply on the screen.

144Hz 1280x960 is probably not listed as supported by the monitor, and thus GPU scaling is used. You need to change the scaling settings in the nvidia panel. The monitor's scaling settings have no effect.

You can add 1280x960@144Hz to the monitor modes manually by using the ToastyX CRU tool. This will allow display scaling. You need to reapply this tweak every time you update the driver.

Okay but I gave you just example of 1280x960, It happens even for 1024x768 and there is no black bars on top and bottom for 120Hz and Display scaling works as well, but for 144Hz nvidia scaling do whole work If I have set in drivers aspect ratio = black bars / fullscreen = stretched.

Yeah, same thing. Monitor doesn't list the mode as supported. Every single resolution and refresh rate combination needs to be explicitly listed in the monitor's EDID as its own mode. If not, then GPU scaling has to be used, unless you add that mode to the EDID using CRU.

If you download ToastyX CRU and run it, you will see a list of the supported modes. Don't forget to also look in the extended blocks, which contains additional modes. If you don't see the resolution and refresh rate you're using, then that means GPU scaling will be used.

So nvidia scaling gives me so much of input lag? Can It be a problem or I'm not understanding it correct?

I'm not aware of GPU scaling having input lag. But who knows. Nobody actually measured it. But if you want to use display scaling, you need to do an EDID override with CRU and add the resolution and refresh rate you want to the list.
