Help me to choose a monitor

Post by boykale » 27 Jan 2019, 18:53

Hello. I bought a ViewSonic XG2530 and RMA'd it due to dead pixel, light leak issue. The 2nd ViewSonic XG2530 also has frame skipping, light leak issue. (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4904&p=37909#p37909)

I talked with ViewSonic support and they told me to send the monitor to them. However, they also stated that ViewSonic XG2530 may be out of stock therfore they may send an equal or higher model monitor if I want.

As I'm worried about having the same problems I may also request refund for that monitor.

There were some topics about 240hz monitors are not that great in terms of overdrive, aim consistency for FPS games if you can't sustain 240hz. Therefore I am not sure whether if I buy a 144-165 hz monitor instead of 240 hz monitor.

Here is a monitor list from the cheapest to the most expensive which I can afford to buy instead of XG2530.
I know that the list a little bit long but these are almost all models that I can prefer. Low input lag, motion clarity are important for me.

The listed BenQ monitors are old so I think new models are much better in terms of specifications. I heard that ViewSonic XG2402 is the best 144 hz monitors that I can buy in terms of input lag etc. I can also buy VA panel monitors like Samsung LC24FG73FQMXUF and MSI Optix MAG241C however I have no idea whether if the image quailty difference is like day and night compared to TN panel like XG2530 and the input lag is higher or not. Asus VG258QR 24.5" 165Hz also looks good to me but I have no idea about gaming performance.

If you guys can give me some advice about these case, I will appreciate it.

1) AOC G2460FQ 24'' 144 Hz
2) BenQ XL2411 24" 144 Hz
3) Viewsonic XG2402 24" 144Hz
4) AOC G2460PF 24" 144 Hz
5) Dell S2419HGF 24" 144Hz
6) Asus VG248QZ 24" 144Hz ( I think this one will be out of list viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4588&start=10)
7) AOC G2590PX 24.5" 144Hz
8) BenQ XL2411P 24" 144Hz
9) Samsung LC24FG73FQMXUF 23.5" 144HZ (Curved VA Panel)
10) MSI Optix MAG241C 23.6" 144Hz (Curved VA Panel)
11) Asus MG248QR 24" 144 Hz
12) Asus VG248QE 24” 144hz
13) Acer KG271Cbmidpx 27"
14) AOC G2770PF 27" 144 Hz
15) AOC G2790PX 27" 144hz
16) Viewsonic XG2702 27" 1ms 144 Hz
17) Asus VG278Q 27" 144 Hz

That's a big list!

About 240Hz
I wouldn't dismiss 240Hz. There are people whose scores do actually improve at 240Hz versus 144Hz.
It depends on the game, and what you're specifically bothered by (e.g. unusually sensitive to a specific image attribute)
The debate of 240Hz in that other thread is 240Hz TN vs 144Hz TN
You included some IPS panels. Remember IPS feels slightly laggier to some due to slower pixel response.

About your RMA
Question, first!
For the 1st->2nd unit, did you RMA it back to a store? (rather than to ViewSonic)

Some online stores is often recycling returned monitors, and they don't always get the latest ViewSonic firmware upgrades. It's not fun when that happens. The frameskipping problem have been fixed in XG2530s since late 2017 in new units, being the quickest manufacturer to fix the 240Hz frameskipping issue in 240Hz FreeSync monitors (faster than AOC, Acer, etc).

I sent the first monitor to store and got refund for it and bought a brand new one from another store. I was going to send it ViewSonic however it was going to take more time. Therefore I contacted them and they told me that you can refund your monitor in 14 days without any reason and get refund instead of sending it to us. As I mentioned I have 2 options for 2nd unit. ViewSonic told me to send it to them for this unit. The 2nd option is to get refund and buy another monitor as I am still in 14 days period and the price of this monitor is much higher now in my country.

As you stated the 2nd unit I got may be the old one with old firmware. The manufacture date is 2017-08-07.
