144 monitors / help with the choice

Post by pwn » 02 Feb 2019, 04:41

Unfortunately, I have to maybe open the accordion theme, but I am interested in the following question:
I am interested in a monitor whose minimum response time, update the image without delay and high definition. As I understand it, admittedly, the VSonic xg2402 model.
But this model is removed from sale and there is no longer possible to buy.
My choice so far fell on AOC 25" G2590PX Black.
As far as I know, it is better in all characteristics than 2402.
Or advise your options.
I play eSports shooters.

At the moment I have vg248qe but it does not suit me that as if it has a delay.
Xg258 he does not like the fact that the soap image.

From what I can find, the vg248qe has very low input lag already. You won't be able to improve on that by any meaningful margin.

I lost the link to the review where it was said that this model is somewhat slower than the Vsonic :?

You can find rtings review for both. XG2402 has 4,1ms and VG248QE has 5,2ms. Some can say the difference is small, as a Quake player I can assure you I notice the difference.

VG248QE also has awful 700:1 contrast and is not flicker free wich affects motion and can cause eye strain. XG240R is the new model after XG2402 and both are superior to the Asus one.

So it seemed to me that there was a difference, I compared the truth with XL2411Z
XG240R will go on sale in March

AOC 25 "G2590PX Black. Can you say something about it?

I decided to check this model and it is interesting. There is a review from PCMonitors.
I'll point some differences between ViewSonic XG2402.

G2590PX:
- The panel is true native 144hz and 24,5''
- 400 cd / m² brightness
- VGA (D-Sub): 1
- HDMI cable (and VGA)
- FreeSync 30 – 144hz

This monitor does have some advantages over XG2402, like bit bigger size, brigthness and hdmi cable.
I would not call the VRR minimum range 30 an advantage because when you buy a 144hz monitor you expect to play at 144fps mostly and a decent cpu will give at least 50fps.
I believe this is why most monitors have minimum range of 48hz. Makes sense to me at least.

The input lag is excelente, just about the same as XG2402.
The pixel response shows a bit of ghosting and trailing while XG2402 seems to be more clear but it will probably not be an issue while playing.
To get the lowest pixel response it's necessary to have ‘Game Mode’ active, which blocks some image settings. This could be a problem.

Did not know this model, seems it is as good as XG2402.
Only way to be sure would be playing with both.

I personally avoid AOC as much as I can, due to their usual lack of QC. Also I´m not a fan of 25 inch monitors, at 1080p I start to see pixels too much (I already complaint about this on 24 inches, nevermind on 25). I would get the XG2402 for sure. Best gaming monitor on the market imo.

I'm new to monitors but from what i saw so far, whatever manufacturer you pick, the probability of having an issue is big, some models more than others.
With this model i did not see negative comments from buyers.

From a technical standpoint, the G2590PX is better because it is true 144hz while XG2402 is 120hz overclocked to 144hz.
But it doesn't seem to be an issue if the overclock works perfectly. Maybe what happens is that the panel dies sooner.

Regarding the size, some don't like it while others don't see a diference but from 24 to 24,5 i do not think you can even notice a thing.

You mean, technically from 23,8 to 24,5 or conventionally as we say, 24 to 25. I do notice the difference! Example: AlienWare AW2518HF 24,5 vs Asus XG248Q 23,8. You notice the higher PPI on the Asus immediatly.

About the chances of having issues, that´s true! But some brands are prone to it, AOC and Asus are 2 of them. Asus more on the backlight bleed and wonky Gamma department. AOC on the frame skip, input lag, overdrive, etc etc. If you check AOC input lag numbers from reliable sources, they usualy have higher input lag than other brands using the same panel. For example the Samsung 1500R 144hz panel. MSi Optix MAG241C is way faster than AOC C24G1 as you can check on hardware info. The 240hz AOC monitors also suffered from heavy frame skipping unless you used 200hz.

It is simply a brand I don´t trust a single bit, but that´s me of course!

Also keep in mind the G2590PX suffers from bad dynamic interlace patterns, wich means on moving images you can notice the annoying lines. You can see how reviews mention that.

I saw that but i forgot to mention it. I have no idea how that looks like.
The issue is more pronounced in the 24,5'' panel.
More insight: https://forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/aoc ... ggestions/

Seems that user noticed it alot.
The best way to know if a product is good for you is to try it.
Some will be bothered by it, others will not notice or care.
Some can't stand tearing, i can tolerate it well, doesn't distract me.
Some do not notice input lag changes, i'm very sensitive to it.
