Which monitor after VIEWSONIC XG2402 ????

Post by StEaK » 04 Mar 2019, 16:55

Hello guys ! This is my first post after reading this forum for monthes.

Indeed, i m not happy with my almost 10 years old ACER GD245HQ (120hz without lightboost). I have so many blur with it, i ve never had a so bad expericence. Disabling overdrive improved a little bit the situation but that's not enough.

So after reading Notty's post about 240Hz monitors and his XG2402,

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4914

i ve decided to give it a try and bought it. I m happy with it but it can be better (hopefully i won't need an JOLED or anything else that doesn't exist yet)

I've never tried a monitor with strobe mode and i m wondering if i should try one (i will send back my xg2402 because i can take a xg240r if i don't find a better choice).

I play with a 1060 GTX + 8700K (+ blablabla :pat:) at these games :

- Fortnite (i dont stare at the crosshair so this is the game who hurts more my eyes) - VSYNC on @ 144fps no VRR
- Overwatch (for a few days) - VSYNC off 300 fps cap no VRR

So i m wondering if a monitor like ASUS PG258Q, BENQ XL2546 (or another one) with a strobe mode @144Hz@144fps (or another settings) can give me a better image clarity.

I need advice from you guys and thank you in advance for reading my post.

For your situation,
It's an excellent idea to make sure your next monitor includes a motion blur reduction mode.
At the minimum, you'll be able to turn it on/off whenever you need.
The additional flexibility of having access to high-Hz, access to ULMB, access to 240Hz, and access to VRR.

VSYNC ON 144fps does look really good with ULMB.

If you are very picky about lag, you might want to try and reduce VSYNC ON lag via using the Blur Busters tricks of low-lag VSYNC ON (or RTSS Scanline Sync) as VSYNC ON can add input lag. Capped VRR can look like VSYNC ON so that may be another tool for you to eliminate stutters while reducing VSYNC ON lag.

You'll gain a lot of flexibility, indeed!
1. GSYNC with a frame rate cap at least 3fps below Hz. You can also use a much lower cap for games that rarely hit the 200s
2. ULMB combined with one of the low-lag VSYNC ON tricks, for when you need the blurfree nirvana
3. VSYNC OFF for games capable of consistent "above Hz" framerates (e.g. CS:GO)

You can later upgrade your GPU if you start playing certain newer games. Fortnite tends to need a much faster card such as an RTX series card if you want to milk the 240Hz on that model in that game.

I have been testing a PG258Q for ten days.

The 3 options that Chief mentioned was pleasant.

I don't know if i should try another 240Hz monitor. I don' think there is one who could give me a better experience.

I haven't found a review of the MSI NXG251, is it a good one?

PS: I forgot to mention a problem that I have with RTSS: i can't see the tearline anymore. The colored bar on the left appears but that s all.

I could see it a few days ago. I tried to reinstalled the program. I read the post "RTSS Scanline Sync HOWTO" and tried several options but the tearline doesn't want to show up...

How does the PG258Q compare to the XG2402 for fortnite? Is it much of an improvement?

I play a lot of fortnite aswell and trying to upgrade to a "perfect" 240 hz monitor from my good old vg248QE, I know atleast Tfue one of the best players in the world uses the pg258q at 240 hz, for whatever its worth :P

Id like the option of strobing on 240hz aswell and not just 144hz, ugh its so hard to decide here, asus pg258q (max 144hz strobing though) zowie xl2546, asus xg248q seem like the best options :/ looking for balanced monitor with good overdrive-input lag-strobing technique ...

not sure :S

Yes, for me it's better. I like playing with ULMB (Fortnite), GSYNC or sync OFF (Overwatch).
