Need help deciding between Samsung Space and 1080p 144hz.

Post by Cohias » 18 Mar 2019, 11:22

I'm currently using a BenQ XL2411 (the one without DisplayPort) running on a GTX 970, I'm upgrading to an RTX 2070 which won't support DVI anymore, so I'm going to sell the BenQ and get an upgrade.
I'm torn between the Samsung Space monitor https://displaysolutions.samsung.com/mo ... ce-monitor or going for 1080p TN Gaming monitors with 1ms GTG again, probably a BenQ XL2411P.
If I go for the Samsung (1440p, 144hz 4ms GTG) which was recently reviewed by Rtings and had 11.3ms input lag, how much of an increase in input lag will I be getting? I can't find any mention of the XL2411's input lag except a review on displaylag.com saying it had 10ms which just doesn't make sense for me, also is the RTX 2070 enough for 1440p 144hz? I'm willing to tone down settings to high or medium on AAA games just to get a more stable framerate.

Let´s try to be as clear as possible here:

1- The Samsung Space model is geared towards business and not gaming

2- XL2411 10ms input lag is correct, but DisplayLag measures only the 60hz input lag, that´s a normal value for 60hz. Wich means the Samsung Space at 11,3ms shows the same or worse input lag with a 144hz refresh, compared to the Benq at 60hz. So to be clear here, the Samsung Space is a very laggy monitor

3- RTX 2070 is enough for 1440p 144hz gaming as long as you tweak your settings, and of course depending on the game.

If you want a good 144hz monitor for gaming wich isn´t slower than your current Benq, your best options are:

- ViewSonic XG2402
- LG 24GM79
- Benq XL2536 (newest AUO panel + Dyac/Strobing)
- Asus VG258QR (newest AUO panel, same as Benq, 165hz, better panel, worse overdrive on the samepl I had, is risky to get it, but on paper it would be the best option)

If you want VA panels with a lot more contrast (3000:1 +) and great input lag at 144hz you have:

- MSI Optix MAG241C 144hz
- Samsung CFG73 144hz

I don´t know what your budget is, but if you care about 1440p 144hz, take a look at the new:

- Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD 1440p 144hz 27 inches with amazing low input lag according to rtings and decent panel response time- 600€ tho

If you buy a monitor 4ms, 144 hz wont mean anything. It still will be slow for gaming.
You can lower some settings. No problem. Some PC settings are really st.p.d.They bring extra blur.In some games somehow low/medium settings give you best sharp image. These people are a big joke if you ask me.

There are variants of the 2070 which still feature DVI. Would save you a lot of money.
If I were you, I would keep the monitor. I owned it myself and it is pretty good.
Do not buy any 240hz monitor. The overdrive is very bad on all of them. Keep the monitor and in the future upgrade to one of the new 240hz 1440p monitors, which will hopefully have a better overdrive.
If you want to go 1440p now, then stay away from VA or IPS if you play competetive games.
I own a Dell 2716dg which is pretty good. The overdrive on that one is still not perfect, but far superior to the 240hz monitors (own one of those as well). I would stay away from the Asus 278qr, because the screen coating is really horrible and ruins the picture quality.
