Zowie XL2546 & Apex Legends what settings?

Post by ogchampion » 30 Mar 2019, 10:53

Hello fellow blur busters,

I have an XL2546 in for testing specifically with Apex Legends.

It pains me to say that I've been rather underwhelmed so far...

Image quality out of the box was shockingly poor for a premium product, but those concerns were largely resolved after turning off black equaliser and adjusting the gamma control.

Apex Legends is currently bugged to a 144 fps cap right now even though the devs intended to uncap the game to 300 fps in the latest update. I am aware that holding 240 fps in Apex is basically impossible with current hardware.

So I got the XL2546 with the intention of using it with Apex at 144hz, after reading a post by Chief that the DyAc actually gets better (clearer) the more hz overhead one has?

Well, at 144hz and the game's 144fps cap I was really disappointed. There was no motion blur as such, as you'd expect. But there was a lot of what felt like stutters between frames and annoying slight double imaging of the cross talk.

The game actually felt better to me at 240hz and 144fps cap, not sure why. Smoother I guess. Still had the same 'granular' feeling of micro stutters between frames though.

The only setting I've found which actually felt really smooth and looked good was using the XL2546 at 120hz and 120fps (Vsync on). However, still got the feint double imaging which is quite off putting to my eyes.

The gaming experience is generally poor compared to my newly acquired ViewSonic XG2402 with a 140fps cap + g-sync.

So has anyone found optimal settings for Apex Legends with an XL2546 yet?

For reference I'm using a 1080 Ti with Ryzen R5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz.

Thanks

The game doesn't feel good in general since they added the 144 FPS cap, need to wait until they manage to fix it after +10 days.

You can get more FPS by using cfg, I've got +100 FPS (I think it was ~380FPS) in training mode using this:

You can uncap the frames manually. you don't need to wait for the devs.
