This sort of damage to the panel is not something I believe I can nor wish to live with

So I just received my XG258Q and the panel in this ASUS monitor has what i believe is damage similar to what your XL2546 has:

You people buy your monitors from internet?Why dont you go to a store and buy it?Afterwards demand a zero pixel test from the seller and you can see if your monitor has any problem there with your own eyes.Ah these strange young people.Never I can understand them.

I have now waited for the replacement and it arrived yesterday. I haven't been "looking for the bleed defect" at all in a long time and now when I was preparing to replace this, I noticed that there are no bleed anymore that is shown in the OP picture. I can upload an image at some point, but anyhow... it's totally gone atm. and I am baffled...
