i have used both aw2518hf and xg258q for quite a while, the aw2518hf for much longer since i got a good deal on it. neither are terrible monitors, but the overdrive overshoot was different for each.

in my opinion the overdrive on both are terrible in their own ways. unacceptable levels even on Fast (aw2518hf) and OD3 (xg258q).
the xg258q has terrible overshoot/ghosting on darker colors on dark colors. for example a red blob moving on darker colors would have this really greyish smearing trail behind it. it gets pretty atrocious at OD5.
the aw2518hf has terrible overshoot/ghosting on bright white or lighter colors. the trailing i saw was a bright blue, completely different color compared to the xg258q and happens on brighter colors, different colors.

for what its worth, i think the fast option on aw2518hf was not as bad as the od3 on xg258q. at the same time, the xg258q definitely had much better response times. i could track a target like crazy on that monitor, but u had to play with the freesync settings, like making sure ur gsync in nvidia is off and setting the right freesync option on the panel otherwise it was shit response times. overall, i think the xg258q is the better monitor, the pg258q is probably even better than that, since in my experience monitors built to handle gsync with the module or w/e usually use better panels, i don't know why.

oh and as a side note, i had to set the contrast on the aw2518hf to below about 74, otherwise i noticed weird lag issues and color weirdness. don't really know how to describe didn't really think much about it.

TLDR; both panels have shit overdrive settings in their own ways, xg258q had much better input lag responsiveness in my opinion

Thanks for your input! I had that exact behaviour with the alienware on bright colours (whites. Yellows) and even worse, it changed on each reboot wich made me give up entirely. But it has an excellent price, doesnt skip frames and I liked the contrast. But I had to turn it down to improve overshoot and rgb limited on nvidia control panel helps with it aswell.

@Notty

I Did ask for fastest monitor available, but it was 144hz. Not using them anymore actually, since 240 is a visible improvement for my eyes.

Dell had this problem with changing colors while you moved your crosshair in previous batches (related to overdrive). In most cases its panel Lottery what you get (which is why i had around 5 units of Dell AW2518hf - was searching for unit without backlight bleed and shitty black deformity, had 1 unit with defective Overdrive, rest was ok) Im not fanboy of dell either of Asus, Dell has terrible quality control of panels, i can't stand their Backlight bleeding and backlight glow, which is why i started considering Asus XG258Q.

The problem is, im getting eye-strain and getting tired so quickly after playing on Asus, so doesnt matter whether i feel that response time is a bit faster. It's just pain in the ass.

Have you tried using Dell at Ultra Fast, and Asus at OD for instance 2-3, and you still feel that Asus is faster? Or you're relating to using Asus at 5th level of OD.(which you actually never going to use)

I'm curious are current 240hz g-sync panels decent and selective ones? I had asus pg248q at past and that was shit and noise at max factory overclock (180hz).

Asus PG248Q is a great monitor, but always had the problem of being too expensive. The thing still costs 450€ here in my country and I think that price is completly unaceptable

I buyed 3 weeks ago the XG258Q, i tryed it for this week (my main game is Apex), my pc setting are this:
MSI Z170A GAMING M5
Vegeance LPX 3000 mhz 16 GB (8x2)
Be quiet Bronze 500/600 wat (i don't remember)
GPU 1660 Ti
CPU i5 6600 k 3.9 ghz
SSD samsung Evo 860 500 gb
Kraken Nzxt x62
Nzxt H400

After some try i founded some issue with the monitor:
When i setting on the Gsync compatibility, i can't feel any difference in smoothness, i just see a serious Overshoot problem and i can see anyway some tearing.
Without gsync comp, i see some tearing anyway, i tryed to lock fps to 120 and 240 but i can see the same shit (at 240 fps cap my cpu go around the 100 % usage, this is my hardware limit)
If i lock the frame in the game cfg the frametime of msi afterburn suck and I see the line full of peaks, if i lock the frame with rivatuner the frametime is pretty perfect, why this?
About the input lag nothing to say, is beatifull, but in game like Apex or overwatch, the image is it is rarely sharp and clear.. Maybe is not the monitor for me? Maybe i need to change the hardware and with the new cpu/gpu amd this problem will be solved?

You have some advice or clarifications, I liked the benq Xl2546 as a monitor, or the AW2518HF .. Maybe they do more for me .. I await your opinion, to fix my XG258Q (some firmware fixes?) Or else.
Thanks

I cannot tell the difference with Freesync enabled (nvidia GPU) either. I disable it in FPS games but I have tried enabling it in demanding single player games and it looks the same to me. I can see the Hz of the monitor fluctuating so it must be working...but again it looks no different.
