Why does Display port and HDMI feel so different?
Why does Display port and HDMI feel so different?
When playing games on my XL2540 the difference is so huge, but idk which is better input lag wise. I feel better with hdmi but idk if its cause i'm used to it. Also when switching to display port my aim feels a lot faster. Anyone know which is better?

Re: Why does Display port and HDMI feel so different?
HDMI and DisplayPort can have different latencies. In an ideal world, the latency difference is tiny.
However, I have seen situations where one of the ports have one-frame-less latency because of a different processing pipeline or different chip being used for that port. It's an annoyingly little-tested part of gaming monitors -- the latency differences of different video ports. It can be sub-millisecond but it can be very huge (multiple milliseconds).
Choose the port that feels better for you. When there's a latency difference happening, it is usually DisplayPort has tighter latencies than HDMI -- I'm assuming you're pushing both ports to their full 240Hz.

I thought I was the only one... so I didn't mention it.
They also feel different for me.
I also feel like I play better with HDMI, even AMA seems a bit stronger on it.
DP feels smoother, but more sluggish.

Agreed, on my alienware hw2521hfl @240hz HDMI feels smoother, while displayport kind of feels sluggish, maybe i should try a vesa certified cable.

I tried two DP cables on my XL2540, and I also had the aw2518HF.
Same experience on both of them... HDMI felt more snappy.
I have a few guesses why, but no proof.

I also agree -> On my Samsung Odyssey G7 32" I prefer 144hz HDMI over 240hz DP

Still using HDMI, still no clue what's up with all this.

I have also tested this on my LG 27GP950-B. 120Hz HDMI certified > 160Hz DP VESA certified.
I will hit more one tap shots on HDMI, even it has 120Hz (144Hz on some resolutions)
If this should be placebo feeling this is crazy... Feels so much better on HDMI.

Are you talking on the monitor ports or the graphics card ports?Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑10 Jul 2019, 12:27However, I have seen situations where one of the ports have one-frame-less latency because of a different processing pipeline or different chip being used for that port.

Both because you switch port type. HDMI vs DisplayPort. That necessitates choosing a different port on both GPU and monitor!Avi wrote: ↑12 Jun 2023, 02:04Are you talking on the monitor ports or the graphics card ports?Chief Blur Buster wrote: ↑10 Jul 2019, 12:27However, I have seen situations where one of the ports have one-frame-less latency because of a different processing pipeline or different chip being used for that port.
