Found the best gaming monitor by accident

Post by BlurBoss » 29 Sep 2019, 05:07

Hey guys, I've been trying out different monitors to find replacement for BenQ XL2456, as I became very sensitive to FPS drops below 240 FPS in my favorite game Rainbow Six siege. I was considering purchasing Aorus KD25F again and staying with it at G-Sync+160 Hz, but wanted to see what other manufactures have come up with. So, I ordered Acer XN253Q and received 144 Hz version of it, which I didn't know existed:
XN253Q Pbmiprzx - 144 Hz
XN253Q Xbmiprzx - 240 Hz
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/p ... redatorxn3

Is there an advantage of going with 144 Hz panel over 240 Hz panel (which I didn't try) on Acer XN253Q? How can I find out what panel I have? HWiNFO shows the panel as "Acer [Unknown Model: ACR06D0]"

This monitor is amazing! With ULMB on at 120 Hz (can't enable it with 144 Hz) UFO is clearer than on my BenQ XL2456 with DyAc on at 240 Hz, but this monitor has no overshoot at all! The colors also looks as good as on Aorus KD25F and Aorus AD27QD. I only tried ULMB on Aorus KD25F with 240 Hz and while the picture quality with ULMB disabled was great, ULMB on was somewhat darker.

With picture quality that good, with clearer motion with ULMB on than on any monitor I've tested (although a bit darker than on BenQ XL2456), with no more 240-180 FPS fluctiations, I'm keeping this monitor as it provides the best gaming experience for me. Here is the list of monitors that used daily for 7 days:
Aorus AD27QD
Aorus KD25F
Acer XV273K
BenQ XL2450
BenQ XL2456
ASUS PG258Q
Asus XG248Q
Viewsonic XG240R (just returned it yesterday)
Samsung C32HG70QQI
Samsung C49RG90SSI
Samsung C49HG90DMI

Only by disassembling or by monitor's service menu if you are lucky. No way that other software can get this information and even monitor's service menu can't be a reliable source since it's just a string value. Btw was there there any cases when monitors assemblers (brands) change panel from batch to batch or from factory to factory? This is common behavior for ssd market or some smartphone assemblers like to use several models of lcd panels in their one smartphone model.

So you recommend this over the 240 hz variant? Do people pick 144 hz over 240 hz anymore?

Yes most of the games cant reach 240 fps and 144hz is sweet spot for all games

I do recommend this over 240 Hz (I've tried Aorus KD25 but haven't tried XN253Q Xbmiprzx), and I would play on XN253Q Pbmiprzx at 120 Hz + ULMB. In fact I'm playing on it right now and using BenQ XL2456 at 240 Hz as secondary montior to type this message.

Really informative post.I recently got the aorus ad27qd because and it was my first IPS monitor,i was always on crt monitors then moved on to tn panels,so i thought the ips is gonna mind blow me,but it was nothing special.Actually the motion blur is horrible. So i was searching for low motion blur and found this thread.Because for me the motion blur makes the games unplayble. So do you think its worth it to sell my aorus(i mean i cant return it because i had it for a couple of months already) and buy this acer ? In your personal experience with so much monitors, is it big difference to go from 1440p to 1080p ? Me personaly this was my first 1440p monitor so i dont know how i am gonna feel again if i go to 1080p.

I actually had Aorus AD27QD for a week and wouldn't even pick it over BenQ XL2456. It does provide much better picture than BenQ XL2456, and a little bit better picture than Acer XN253Q P, but it was very slow in Rainbow Six Siege and Apex Legends and it's ULMB is very dark. 1440p did give a little bit of detail and I could move 27" monitor a little further away (and lean forward for more details, leaning forward on 1080p doesn't give more details). I personally would only play RPGs or Strategies on Aorus AD27QD, but I haven't played them in 10 years. If you could return a monitor for any reason, I'd recommend purchasing another one and comparing them side by side.

I've got the XN253QX with 240Hz and 237FPS in Siege is not a problem (I play with downsampling WQHD). Although I prefer 144Hz+ULMB@70. Maybe the difference is minor but why take 144Hz when 240Hz is available? It only makes sense if you can't afford the XN253QX.

consistent overdrive not suffer from stutters when fps below 144 fps most of the games cant reach 240 fps there huge reasons why 144hz still popular
