Lenovo Y27gq-25 does have ulmb have you tried it at 144hz or 120hz (cause this is the hz that ulmb does work in) just to compare to the XN253QP ? i also asked you about the asus pg258q since you stated that you have tested it

What makes you say that Lenovo Y27gq-25 has ULMB? Do you have proof?
Asus pg258q is not a contender to XN253Q Pbmiprzx or XN253Q Xbmiprzx at all.

@BlurrBoss
That`s the option which got turned on and I didn't recognize. Maybe it was the update when they added the bar below AA.

No it was always there. Disabling it is easy too.

Did you try the XL2546 in 144hz mode? It seems like it might be the lower refresh rate rather than the different monitor that fixed the problem.

The XL2546 is the monitor that I’m considering getting as it seems to be the best option on the market for blur reduction. Is this not the case and is there a general consensus of what is?

There are many aspects to "blur reduction" in some XL2456 wins, in others wins XN253Q Pbmiprzx. I'm selling my XL2456 and keeping XN253Q Pbmiprzx. Yes, I've tried XL2456 in 144 Hz and to me the motion on it looks and feels worse. There is no general consensus. Read this:

Also the picture quality on XN253Q Pbmiprzx in non ULMB mode looks way better.
I would only consider XL2456 over XN253Q Pbmiprzx if I played only games that can provide 240 0.1% FPS such as Quake, but the games I play jump in FPS at values of 120-300.

Thanks for posting that link! I wasn’t aware that fluctuating framerates affected aim like that. I thought I’d found the right monitor to go with in the XL2546 but it seems I’m still lost in the “which monitor is right” maze and it’s getting more complicated by the day. I just want a monitor that has good motion blur reduction, low input lag and works well in 100hz mode because 100 FPS is an achievable long term baseline.

After doing some more research, the XN253Q does seem to be an improvement on the XL2546. Does the XN253Q work in 100hz mode or just 120 max with/without ULMB and 144 without ULMB?

I’m actually replacing a VG27HE which I was pretty happy with because I got a new GPU and didn’t realise that my monitor requires a dual link DVI connection in order to strobe which isn’t possible with the new GPU or any cable adaptors it seems. It’ll cost me a couple of hundred dollars to return the card and get a lower powered card that has a DVI port but with the issues with 240hz, that may actually be the best option.

It seems that the XN253QX works with 100, 120 and 144 modes with ULMB but there are problems with 100 so it isn’t recommended (source: https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/acer-xn253qx/).

Thanks to BlurBoss, it seems I’ve found the right monitor. Now I just need to figure out whether to get the 240 or 144 hz version.

For the posters who were recommending the 144hz version over the 240hz version, I’m assuming that the 240hz version would offer the same benefits at 144hz or 120hz mode wouldn’t it? Or is there something about the overdrive in 240hz monitors that makes them inherently worse, even at 120 or 144hz?

As the two monitors are more or less the same price, wouldn’t the 240hz version be the better option due to being usable in more modes, being more future proof and still offering the same benefits over the 240hz modes at both 120hz and 144hz with ULMB enabled? I’ve also read that crosstalk is reduced when running a monitor at a refresh rate below its max refresh rate so this could be a benefit too.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. We could really use an answer to that.

Thank you very much for this thread and sharing your thoughts on the monitor. You have seemed to have tested a lot of different top end monitors so it really helps to see your opinion on this.

I've been in the market for a monitor for a couple of years and I was very set on 240hz for such a long time. I've decided it's more wise to drop down and get a 144hz monitor, but I'm just a bit sad that this monitor can't do ULMB at 144Hz! I was about to pull the trigger on this monitor until I read that, and I'm I'm wondering whether to bite the bullet and go for the 240hz just for the 144hz ULMB option.
