Stuck Between These 3 Monitors!

Post by Bushhy » 11 Nov 2019, 10:30

Hello!

This is my first post here, but I figured it would be a good place to come ask!

I am currently selling my AOC AG352UCG, and looking to downsize. Most of the games I play have issues with 21:9, and the framerate isnt what I want.

I am stuck between going down to a 240Hz 1080p Monitor, or a 165Hz 1440p Monitor. Below are the options I am looking at.

1. Dell AW2518HF
2. LG 27GK750F-B
3. Dell S2417DG

My computer specs:
i7-8700k
GTX 1080ti
16GB RAM

I am getting $425 for my current monitor. From reading reviews on this site, the AW2518HF seems like a really good choice. It is currently $269.99 at my local store. I feel like I could upgrade my RAM a little more as well with the extra money.

Games I primarily play :
Escape From Tarkov
RUST
Call of Duty : Modern Warfare. It seems to me that since these are shooters, it would probably be beneficial to go with the higher refresh rate over the higher resolution right?

Thanks everyone!

If you want the best of both worlds Imo the LG 27GL850-B or LG 27GL83A-B. I'm looking at these since my luck with the Acer XN253QP is not on my side.

I have the Acer XN253QP and it's excellent, 1 panel had a bit of BLB around the very edge and interlace artifacts but my 2nd one is perfect, no BLB, no interlace artifacts. It's a brilliant monitor using the new AUO panel with G-Sync.

If you must stick to the list, I would avoid the Dell S2417DG, I've heard less than great reviews on the quality of the panels.

I don't think it's the new AUO panel. Probably one of the older ones that's why it's so cheap.

The Acer XN253QP has the AUO panel version 1.6.
I know it because I entered the service menu.

It is a *very* responsive monitor, but for some reason(s) I did not keep it (most of all, I was annoyed by that "gamer type stand foot")

By the way, having the most recent version (1.9, I guess) does not mean so much - I also had the Acer XF252QX (panel version 1.9, 240hz), but I found the XN253QP noticeably more responsive.

Furthermore, I had the Acer XF272UP (panel version 1.8, 144hz), and this one was also very responsive, more so than the XF252QX and about the same as the XN253QP, in my own experience.

My issues with those Acer monitors were about the lack of sharpness control (XF252QX); the Acer XN253QP also lacks a sharpness control, but I felt texts had more clarity (might be a coincidence, though). The Acer XF272UP doesn't have an (official) sharpness control via the monitor settings, but it can be controlled via vcp commands (such as: ddcutil setvcp 0x87 4), allowing for 4 steps of sharpness control this way.
