ASUS VG259Q

Post by Max_hz » 16 Nov 2019, 10:09

After trying out 2 HP OMEN X25f, 1 Viewsonic xg2402 and 1 LG 24GL600 each about for one week and sending all back course they couldn't satisfy me one way or the other my attention felt on the new ASUS VG259Q 144hz 1ms mprt IPS monitor which is using the AUO M250HAN01.6 panel.
I bought the monitor €289 (just out curiosity about the performance of the new IPS panels) and I played a few rounds in cs:go did some desktop tasks, vied pictures to observe the colours and overall I'm pleasantly surprised.

Gonna use it some more days to get a better expression, I'll let you know later.

In short my first impressions for now (need some more time to use it for a final);

*Pros
-clearest image I've seen so far in game and desktop use without almost no blur or ghosting
-good colours and blacks/whites
-fluently performanche in cs:go (that surprised me)
-none artifacts like checkerboard, fine-lines or vertical-lines textures
-a monitor capable for universal use
-nice sturdy adjustable stand without screaming (game) colours

*Cons
-minor ips-glow in left low corner
-minor backlight bleed (only visible in a dark room on a black background)
-a bit weak contrast (but better then the tn-panels I tried before)
-no usb-ports (if you need them on your monitor)
-a bit expensive

I only play cs:go (for the moment) and I don't use any sync-technology (disabled in osd-settings) so I cannot say anything about
free-sync or adaptive-sync performance.
I tried very short ELMB and it seems to do a good job but again I don't use it in cs:go.
Recommanding hmm... I don't know that depends just make sure to buy it in a shop with good return policies

I play semi dark(led strip around my room) room. Ips glow or bleed jumping in eyes or just when looking at it?
I am causal game not pro and some time watching movies.

I read reddit 1 comment where sad hard read text its blur. Its true?

Pls link me your monitor config.

Thanks for info.

Text is sharp and clear without blur and indeed I saw that message too on reddit, it's related to the overdrive setting, I use tracefree 60 for desktop use and tracefree 80 in games without any problem.

IPS glow is inherent to the IPS technology so there is a reasonable chance your unit will have it but it will vary on each unit, I don't play in a dark room or neither play games with real dark scenes so I cannot advice you with that, like I said it's visible (minor) but not disturbing and you 'll have to look for it.
If you go for a TN panel I would choose the vg258qr above the vg258q.
Also you need some luck these days when buying a new monitor!

Keep in mind;
Considering the large possibility of (quality) differences in all properties (more or less)) between the panels I assume every panel is unique same for all us humans (having a unique physical body and mind, perception, experience, etc.) so those are mine unique experiences with this monitor.

Hi, i'm very interested in this monitor (i bought a Viewsonic xg2402 a couple of weeks ago but i'm not satisfied with the image quality so i'll send it back)

I'd like to know if the ASUS VG259Q has a sRGB mode that doesn't locked off the brightness adjustment level
(in the AOC 24g2 the sRGB emulation mode locked off the brightness adjustment at a very high level, and for me this is a deal breaker)

Thanks and sorry for poor english

@Hansen79

The brightness adjustment level is indeed locked off same as for contrast, saturation, color temp and skin tone.

Blue light filter (5 steps) and shadow boost (3 steps) are not locked.

For me personally the brightness level in SGRB mode is just good and I don't think that it's in the high range rather in the mid range.

Btw. nothing wrong with your English
