The single strobe cutoff point is between 75hz and 96hz. I am not sure where, since I don't own this monitor yet (it's just too expensive). On the Benq XL2720Z, it was exactly 96hz (via custom refresh rates) where it started double strobing if "Single Strobe" was set to disabled in the service menu. I am assuming that Benq likes to recycle code, so it's very likely it is similar.

Is it possible to upgrade the firmware manually?

Unofficially, yes.

There are Linux commands to dump a firmware from one BenQ and flash it to a different BenQ.

They're the same Linux commands used to create the backup firmwares stored on the cloud drive links in the Linux firmware-upgrade thread. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=779

On the early XL2720Z (Version 2), using narrow VT's, the cutoff was about ~75 Hz. I am not sure if the threshold changed.

Fortunately, I've succeeded in convincing other manufacturers to support 60 Hz single-strobe again. One hitting the market this spring. There's are upcoming single-strobe high-Hz IPS panel that is capable of strobing at all refresh rates 60Hz-and-up. Four of them, in fact -- if they don't regress firmwares by end of 2021/early 2022.

Chief is there a way you can add a "like" and a "tag" option?

A phpbb "Like" feature may be in the wraps.

Priority is finishing www.blurbusters.com theme refresh first.
(New Menubar, Faster performance, Dark Mode, etc).
Yes, there's a Dark Mode option on the main website now!

Just got the XL2746S.

Single Strobe at 60hz is gone obviously.

Monitor has "Accelerated scanout" (aka VT Tweak effective "VT 1500") apparently built in by default, similar to Lightboost mode.
100hz and 120hz have exactly the same crosstalk "field distance" as the XL2720Z does with VT 1500 active. So a VT tweak may not be needed but may still have an effect (didn't test).

Despite the built in accelerated scanout, the "Area" only moves up and down similar to Strobe Phase without a VT Tweak (on a XL2720Z). So at Area 100, you can't move the crosstalk field all the way down. (on an XL2720Z, with a VT Tweak, this limits max Strobe Phase to 059 @ 100hz and 049 at 120hz (any higher and the backlight shuts off), and Max strobe "duty" (intensity) is then limited to the amounts of strobe phase remaining before the backlight shuts off). I'll have to see if a VT tweak will remove this restriction (didn't tes this yet).

Colors seem better. A lot brighter than my dimming XL2720Z which still works fine but is now dimmer enough than it was 8 years ago to actually be noticeable :/

OD Gain: FF (255).

looks great at od gain 15, is that the default?

also, did you find any value that is better than default on the ufotest? would be awesome with pics/videos for that!

imo the 2746s looks a little bit better in terms of overall crosstalk for some reason than the 2546K, after looking at all the pics and videos I could find at least thats how it seems to me, although both look super super good in the center area of monitor, easily the best 240hz strobing available from what I can see!

anyway would be really interesting to see if you find any optimal values for tweaks like the od gain value, and also maybe the zowie blurbusters utility values (strobe area/phase etc)

for example were you able to reduce crosstalk at top/bottom area with any tweaks? as the center is more or less perfect already,

cheers !

Vertical Total 1350 work at 100hz and 120hz. Using VT 1350 at 120hz makes it look like 100hz without a VT tweak (stock). VT tweak at 100hz makes it look a bit better. That's how you reduce the crosstalk.

I think Chief mentioned really high VT's above at 598 mhz dot clock in the other thread he made. Didn't really test it except to see if it went out of range or not.

I have yet to try 240hz since I had it looked up to my laptop and wasn't in a position to try games.
I'm just happy I didn't lose the panel lottery.

1440p @ 120hz via custom resolution makes the text look bad. I forgot how bad it looks when I did 1440p @ 100hz on my XL2720Z (which only worked via a higher VT (1500) since there were only limited VT ranges that didn't black screen on the old Mstar scalars).
