240hz TN/ips motion clarity

Post by sosuyike » 26 Feb 2020, 18:20

I have a good oldie Xl2411z that i have been trying to "optimize" to it's last bone 160 hz overclock with blur reduction on, 200hz overclock and all, and can't find a good setup that wont hurt my eyes, doesn't have ghosting, clear motion is deadly bad in this monitor.
So, its time for an upgrade and hours on research.

Specs that i am after:
- Fast, low input, competitive monitor(every bit counts eh);
- TN or IPS, i have seen the Chief mentioning several times that IPS are pretty close to speed to a fast-ish TN, but at the moment TN panels still take the cake in terms of speed
- 1920x1080, 24-25" inch, not curved

It seems there's an upcoming 360hz gsync 25" monitor which seems to check all the boxes besides the price
The benq 2546S should be coming soon as well which seems it will be a fairly standard tn fast panel with dyac which should correct the blur that i have and same as the above it should tick all the boxes besides the price.
Theres also this https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-TUF-Gamin ... 89GJR?th=1
If this comes out at 24/25" screen i think it should be a really good all rounder, didn't find a proper benchmark review on this 27"
What do you guys recomend?

Is your eyestrain caused by:
-- Flicker / Strobing?
-- Bad Colors?
-- Bad Stutter?
-- Etc?

Cause of your eyestrain will help us optimize your recommendations.

Different people behave differently for eyestrain.

There are people get more eye strain from bad colors, eye strain from bad stutter, eye strain from ficker/strobing, eye strain from motion blur, eye strain from motion, eye strain from too bright / too dim, eye strain from blue light, etc.

It's kind of hard to check all boxes concurrently (lagless+strobeless+blurless+color+etc) until the 1000fps+@1000Hz+ OLED holy grail. That's why eating having cake and eating it too is a little bit easier with the ViewSonic XG270, and a bunch of other 240Hz 1ms IPS panels. Depends on your priorities.

Just to let you know the ASUS you've linked is available in 24,5" as the VG259QM.

TFTcentral should be releasing their VG279QM review any day now according to their site.

There's also the Acer Predator XB253QGP and a 240Hz variant coming soon.

This is a good resource, you can see the upcoming 240Hz IPS monitors under "AUO IPS Panels". https://www.displayninja.com/new-monitors/

The eye strain happens when i turn on blur reduction, am fine with the colors, its a weird vibrating light, ghosting /inverse ghosting
If i push over 170/180hz i see some light artifacts, colors get worse (still okay with me)
Lately i just been using blur off and 170hz overclock, still with horrible blur when moving the camera in a medium-fast motion
Don't mind the blue light as well, my main issue with this monitor is without a doubt the immense blur, also not as smooth as a 240hz

VG259QM doesn't seem to be available yet in europe, seems to be pretty good, i wonder how it goes versus ViewSonic Elite XG270

Damn, now I'm wondering between HP Omen X 25f and this new Asus, either 24,5 or 27". IPS would be nice, but it's still slower, but not that much slower anymore.

I am actually mad, i know they have to make money and such, but making these type of reviews in a paywall is just annoying.

Early access haha. Tftcentral.

Mag251rx seems like it might be pretty good.

Better response time compared to vg279qm but also more overshoot.
