Are you going to get the VG259qm or the VG279qm?

Dark room? Avoid the alienware at all costs. It has the worst contrast ratio out of the 240hz bunch. Not only will u see greys as blacks, but the clouding washed out look of the monitor will amplify.

If u want decent contrast, the msi or the acer nitro/predator has good contrast.MSI has the highezt contrast ratio at 1200:1. Which ties the fi27q-p. The colors are vibrant as well.

If i were u, the MSI is a no brainer. Its the fastest 240hz ips monitor(tied with the alienware) but instead of 800:1 contrast, it has 1200:1 contrast. HDR isnt that bad on it.

G sync? Lmfao unless u intend to play games below the max refresh rate, TURN off any adaptive sync. The input lag isnt worth it. However, if u play a game where the fps is below 240hz, adaptive sync has its uses

I always turn off adaptive sync when i play competitive games. The added input lag and u wont benefit from lower input lag from FPS higher than the refresh rate.

Again, its up to u. I heard the acer predator is good too. Im testing the 27" gsync version this weekend. Stay tuned

Thanks man, sounds logical! Too bad the MSi wont be available until july and right now i can pre order for 400€, thats not the final price is it. Too bad the Alienware cant handle what i am looking for :( love the design so much but meh, it aint worth it. Anyway thank you for the reply!!

- edit: i cant find any info that the MAG251RX has 1200:1. it says 1000:1 everywhere? hm..

Have you tried the BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 or the XL2546? If so, how do they match up against the MSI and Asus in your opinion?

I actually didn't purchase any TN monitors when i did these experiments.

Ben Q i'm fairly sure it's 80% g2g is only 0.4-0.5 quicker than the fastest IPS monitor MSI. The two fastest TN right now is the nitro xv252 and the Omen x25 which clocked at aroughly 2.1ms(according to rtings) and the MSI and alienware is 3ms(at least that's what i got on my oscilloscope readings.

So the fastest TN is still definitely ahead of the fastest 240hz IPS monitors by a decent margin of 0.9ms (or 1ms). This can be seen on the UFO ghosting tests.

i'm guessing, the predator TN is 2.2-2.4ms which is still faster than 3ms MSI

it's COMING. ALL of the 240hz IPS g2g averages 10-90. TWO versions will be used. ($500 oscilloscope and $ digital oscilloscope)

I don't know about you but i'm not the type of person that would let a review website dictate my HUNDREDS of dollars on computer hardware. This is why I made this thread. I got sick and tired of the all the paid reviews, fake reviews, or reviews that "cherry picks" or intentionally ommit critical information.

Affiliate marketing is problematic among the review community and this is why i have to stand up for the consumers who let their hundreds of dollars be dictated by these websites.

Am i a tech expert? NO. Never took a computer science class in my life nor have I taken a photography class; however, i'm an engineer and what I do know is how oscilloscopes work like the back of my head and fortunately, repsonse time testing on monitors OVERLAP with what i've learned when i was in college. There was this electrical engineering class that i took on my masters degree program where ALL we did was tinker with oscilloscopes. The grade you get is dictated by the ACCURACY of your results. if you are off on your RISE time measurement, you will get an F, that's how strict my professor was.

I think you mentioned you will be reviewing the Acer Predator XB252Q? Really curious if you could review that one as I have one ordered since it was like the only one in stock and now I don't know if I should return it and get the Asus VG259QM or the MSI Optix MAG251RX instead. Thanks!

Acer predator Xb273 x, not the acer predator xb253q gx

The xb253qg x should have the same response time as the acer nitro xv273 x at around 4.4ms, or equal to that of the LG nano LG 27gl850-b

The acer predator and acer nitro all use the same ahva panel and came out at the same time. All have good middle overdrive with 0-1% overshoot and the extreme overdrive should cause massive overshoot. The input lag and contrast is excellent.

The xb273 x is the g sync 27" version was the one i got today. There's already a thread about the xb253q gx. Just do a control+F search and youll find it.

If i were u, i wouldnt get it. It's fast but not TN level fast like the Msi, asus, and alienware. The the 240hz ips alienware for example is just as fast as mid level TN.

The acer predator/acer nitro's middle overdrive's response time isnt fast enough for 240hz. Whereas the MSI's 3rd overdrive is def. Fast enough foe 240hz. But has overshoot( u can see it on the UFO tests)

Ah yes i meant to type XB253Q GX. Well i might as well cancel my order then I was hoping it would be as good as the MSI or Asus monitors. I guess I will wait until the MSI will come back in stock. I don't think I could reach 280Hz so the Asus seems kind of pointless no?

And you would say to definitely pick up the Alienware, Asus, or MSI 240Hz IPS monitors over the Acer Predator XB253Q GX correct?

Hey thank you for your hard work. Have you tested the acer yet? I just ordered xb253q gx and if it has 4.4 ms lag I think I would get it. Also, will it support freesync? I have radeon vii but I can't constantly hit 240fps in league of legends(possibly due to game itself). So I think I may need the sync on.
