the blacks are just as good as the Viewsonic nano. They have the same exact Nano panel. Look at the video i posted comparing my 240hz MSi to the viewsonic nano. The blacks you see there should be the same as the blacks you see on the LG. (that's presuming there isn't any monitor variance). Itw as around 800:1 i believe which doesnt' matter that much if you increase the saturation and playing on a semi-lit room.life_at_1ms wrote: ↑27 May 2020, 07:49Thanks for that! I'm considering going with LG 27GL8500-b for now... How are the blacks? I do some video editing and deal with a lot of text so the colors & higher resolution is important.RLCScontender wrote: ↑27 May 2020, 06:00Coming soon, the best(based off my tests) and fastest 1440p IPS monitors (that doesnt' cost $2000). unfortunately the asus tuf VG27AQ didn't make the cut.
LG 27GL8500-b (144hz 1440p IPS monitor) (133% SRGB 98% DCI-p3)
Viewsonic Elite XG270QG (165hz 1440p IPS monitor) (133% SRGB 98% DCI-P3)
Asus ROG Strix XG279Q (170hz 1440p IPS monitor) (125% SRGB 95% DCI-p3)
vs
MSI MAG251RX (240hz 1080p IPS monitor) (133% SRGB 98% DCI-P3) (lottery panel)
can these 1440p REAL wide gamut IPS monitors be better than the MSI MAG251rx?(the overall best 240hz IPS monitor based off of my tests and my observations)

i ranked the LG as the #1 most well rounded. As in, if you are a content creator but want fast response times with vibrant colors, while having the option to play consoles(hdmi-vrr), LG is an excellent choice. You can buy the LG today and not have to worry about fast response times for gaming, or having srgb mode for content creating, or playign the ps5/series x(thanks to HDMI-VRR) for consoles while still having 98% DCI-P3 and 133% SRGB which in my opinion is the #1 reason why it's the overall best. video games just look beautiful thanks to the nano wide gamut. (not so much for watching movies since humans look red but when it comes to pictures and videogames, the vibrant colors are beautiful to look at.
SRGB mode--->the LG 27gl850-b is a great choice because its SRGB mode is very good and is viable for content creating(it's just as good as the lg 27gl83a at 99% srgb). The nano viewsonic doesn't have srgb mode despite being a wide gamut monitor. I ultimately chose the viewsonic over the LG but not having SRGB to clamp the gamut sucks and I don't know if the colors are accurate unless i purchased a color accuracy tool. I'm not a content creator so that's another reason why i chose the viewsonic.
2. it's still very fast at 4.7ms g2g, that may not sound a lot but if you compare it to the other ips monitors, it's literally in the 99th percentile of fast response times. only the viewsonic and $2000 38" LG is faster at 1440p(PS, the lenovo legion which my cousin has is slower than the LG).
one word though, it doesn't have the saturation change option on the monitor, but you can adjust the saturation levels on nvidia control panel and it's very vibrant. The downside is, if you play a console game that doesn't have a saturation tool to increase it, it's really not taking advantage of the wide gamut. For exapmle, i played smash ultimate with the LG 27gl850-b and i wasnt' able to adjust the saturation so i was stuck with srgb mode in smash ultimate. I hope the xbox series x and ps5 has a saturation option to increase it whenever you want.
another upside is HDMI-VRR which the LG has but the nano viewsonic doesn't. if you play the ps5 or series x, hdmi-vrr works up to 100hz on native resolution. That's more than enough because most AAA ps5 titles probably won't break 60hz fps anyway. If you lower the resolution down to 1080p, HDMI-VRR works at 120hz. If you turn off adaptive sync(which i recommend most ppl do because of input lag), then 120hz can be played at native resolution
in my opinion, Nano 27" LG is still the best and it hasn't changed from 2019 where it reigned as the best IPS monitor on most ppl's rankings. Its' just not the fastest anymore, but it's still the best overall. If you can only afford 1 monitor, the LG has it all(SRGB mode+fast response times+good for console gaming since HDMI VRR). if the nano viewsonic had a way to clamp the gamut and had HDMI-VRR for consoles, then i would pick the viewsonic over the LG. One weakness is that it doesn't have backlight strobing.
