Good thing about this website is that the UFO testes generally don't lie. As long as saturation, temperature, and certain levels of brightness and a straight line, that's great way to tell how fast your monitor is.

Image

I've compiled the fastest TN vs the fastest IPS monitors and put them into ONE photo. I also put a UFO test of what the alien spaceship is supposed to look like. The way to tell is asymetric blur. The more assmetric blur=higher response time. TN is ahead in white transitions but is just about equal in every other color(although the AW2518HF(top middle) seems to be showing some assymetrical black level smearing.

thing is, i see the big picture of things. It looks to me the fast IPS when it comes to g2g response times are just as good as the fastest TN.

The difference unfortunately is input lag. (top right photo is the acer nitro XF252Q) which is basically one of the fastest TN in the world right now(i think it has the BEST UFO ghosting test out of the 8 photos), but with a whopping 3-3.5ms input lag. Whereas the one in the bottom right(acer predator xb253q gx) based off my measurements is about 1.6-1.8ms input lag(no processing delays unlike its TN cousin the nitro xf252q, this is confirmed via RTINGS & TFTcrentral at around the 3-3.5ms input lag mark.)

TN is still ahead in grey to grey response times but is behind in input lag(the XB3/XV3 monitors) and peak performance(The Asus VG279QM/VG259QM is 15% faster). This is a mixture of my measurements and the two measurements from tftcentral and rtings. Keep in mind, the reason why i'm using them as references is because iIve never measured TN g2g and TN input lag so i had no choice but to use these sites. Generally speaking, they are fairly accurate and if i were to advise anyone to to wait for a review, these two sources in my opinion are fairly credible. I follow the same format when it comes to measuring latency from TFT(except i use a photodiode and an oscilloscope whereaes TFT using smtt to measure latency), also with the 10-90 g2g averages as well.
Great summary on everything collected so far. :D
How is the VG 259QM in comparison to the rest? do you mind sharing the response time and input lag of the VG 259QM @280hz also @240hz? is the input lag better than asus VG 279QM at 280hz? curious to know if the input lag is better on the VG 259QM than VG 279QM @ 280hz and 240hz?

still waiting for the quintuple review finale :D

Thank you for your answers, id appreciate it :) btw whats your OD settings for:
Overwatch:
270fps limit + ELMB-Sync + Freesync + ingame Vsync.
Rainbow Six Siege:
235fps limit (config file)+ ELMB-Sync + Freesync + ingame Vsync.
Hyper Scape
270fps limit (config file)+ ELMB-Sync + Freesync + ingame Vsync.
League of Legends:
235fps limit (config file)+ ELMB-Sync + Freesync + ingame Vsync.

What are your OD settings for those as well? Thanks
OD80 is automatically forced with ELMB-Sync
Hey axaro1, by any chance do you know the input lag and response time and ghosting/ overshoot error, at 240hz 80od and 280hz od 80?
also do you know if the vg259qm is better than vg 279qm after 240hz? inputlag / response time / overshoot error?
thanks in advance and stay safe :)

I completely agree, I bought the VG259QM on 26-05 this year, first I had some eyestrain but that is now completely gone. If I compare the VG259QM with the previous monitors I had (TN / IPS), this is definitely the better one, highly recommended in many ways. I bought it for € 350 incl. cashback from Asus, definitely worth the money. For me the outcome of reviews does not matter anymore, I am very happy with it now. Have to say that I only use the monitor at high refresh rates with high fps rates, here the Asus really shows what it can do. Because I do not want 2 monitors on my desk I was looking for a monitor that is suitable for games and desktop use and that is not easy to find, you have to make concessions soon but the Asus does well in both. Sure the other new fast IPS monitors will be fine too but they were not available or much more expensive when I bought this Asus.
In use: Asus VG259QM IPS 240-280hz - Hanns-G HS233 TN 120hz
Used before: LG 24LG600 TN 144hz - HP Omen X 25f TN 240hz - ViewSonic XG2402 TN 144hz - Asus VG259Q IPS 144hz

Oh may i ask what games do you play with the monitor high refresh rates with high fps rates?
Hows the input lag and response times at 280hz for the vg 259qm?
hows is the vg259qm input lag and response time compared to omen x25f at 240hz? would love to know your opinion
seems like you tested omen x25f tn 240hz before, looking at your profile, i could be wrong, if so i apologise in advance.

Im playing at 280 @ 80 because of ELMB sync. mainly playing fortnite and rainbow six. i get 240 plus in both. Honestly it feels great. I cant quote numbers but it feels fast. i have a 1080ti and honestly the experience is great. i cap at 280 in both games and run fixed refresh. just plain ELMB. no g-sync.

I played Fortnite and Overwatch with mine so far. Really fantastic performance overall and love everything about it for the money ($320 US price). I don't have the most powerful rig (RTX 2070 laptop) so I capped the fps at 280, kept OD 60 w/ G sync on since my frame rate would fluctuate between 220-280. Haven't tried ELMB in any form yet so can't comment on it personally. Coming from a 144hz TN panel w/ G sync compatibility, this monitor is super smooth/fast and input lag is extremely good. Going from TN to IPS really amplifies how washed out TN looks now having both monitors next to each other (using the old one as a secondary screen now).

Best surprise is finding out it supports 10 bit color at 240hz which would definitely be nice for more cinematic slower paced games.
These 240hz IPS's are just much more versatile monitors to me even if they are not quite as fast as the best 240hz TN. I'd only recommend a TN at this point to someone literally only playing highest level competitive E sport games and don't use their PC for much else. Only thing I wish it had was a better contrast ratio. Envious of those dark inky blacks like VA/Oled but wouldn't change that for the colors, speed, and performance of this. Also happy to win the panel lottery and get barely any noticeable IPS bleed/glow or dead pixels, which I've had bad luck with in the past.

I was probably unlucky with the X 25f, I had 2 units with different production dates and both suffered from pixel inversion artifacts. Visible as faint vertical lines when you moved in the game, this destroyed the image and clarity you would expect from a fast monitor.
Color and contrast were not disappointing for a TN screen, when scrolling on a web page you saw a blue/green shadow behind the text (blurry text) you could reduce this by lowering the overdrive but it does give more actions when switching from windows to a game. The ergonomics are limited and for me the monitor just didn't go high enough. In the game the X 25f feels fast and responsive but so is the Asus, you should put them side by side to notice the difference (if there is a difference) but I think it is negligible. As I said I've probably been unlucky with the units I had, there are people on the forum here who don't recognize this and are happy with X 25f.
With the Asus I play on 240hz OD 60 (cs: go) without sync, 280 OD80 also goes well but somehow I like the 240hz OD 60 better. ELMB works surprisingly well also at high refresh rates.
