05/22/2020 UPDATE. The IPS 240hz monitor tier list.(I've measured/tried the all) and my honest explanation why.

Everything about displays and monitors. 120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz, 4K, 1440p, input lag, display shopping, monitor purchase decisions, compare, versus, debate, and more. Questions? Just ask!

I have no issues with input lag using 280Hz VRR on while playing single player games such as Control (very demanding game). As for multiplayer games, I prefer every sync features to be off. (vg259qm)

I got what you said but this whole time I was under the impression that the high input lag happens exactly the same as locked to 60hz or VRR on and you hit 60 fps(so that's 60hz now) figured they acted the same, that's good to know then.
Yep, this is misleading, and no, they don't act the same :) People think that when you have your refresh rate set to 240/280 Hz and turn VRR on and drop to 60 fps you'd get that super-high input lag, but you don't. High input lag issue only applies to fixed/locked 60 Hz scenarios (with or without VRR). So yeah, if the game is not locked on 60 Hz and your monitor is set to 240/280 Hz, then you still have very low input lag if fps drops to 60 in VRR.
So in other words fighting games such as Street Fighter V that are 60 fps only would experience input lag then?

Yep it's locked to 60hz so you will get the high input lag.

Damn. Is there a 240Hz monitor that doesn't perform poorly at 60Hz?

Pretty much all of them except the Asus which has high 60hz input lag.

Are you sure? I've been hearing that 240Hz monitors perform bad at 60Hz for like a year or two now, it can't just be one monitor

For anyone who's interested, here's another review of the MSI MAG251RX. http://playwares.com/dpreview/57916781
I'm not a an expert in reading response time tables, but that MSI appears to be faster than the ASUs VG279QM. http://playwares.com/dpreview/57710387

The MSI is 0.1ms faster than the VG279qm if you compare Faster with OD80 but OD80 on the VG279qm is 100% overshoot free and Faster on the MSI has 7.3% overshoot.
This testings of the MSI show that the response time with Faster is in line with the Vg259qm (2.6ms G2G with OD120), probably due to both monitors using the same panel and achieving similar overdrive performances and the ufotest with Faster vs OD120 looks basically the exact same.

If you're using an nvidia card, you can force max refresh rate in the nvidia panel. I don't know if AMD has a similar setting.

had my predator xb273 x NOT have a dead pixel, i would still be owning it right now. OD Off in my opinion is the xb273 x best overdrive settting.

I miss its variable overdrive. it was among the best feature about the ONLY native 240hz IPS monitor.

@thasios, i owned FOUR msi mag251rxs, all FOUR of them had different white balance for the optimal 6500k requirement. If you meant lowing the gain(color temperature) Red/Green/BLue, that is unique to your monitor. Essentially, you can adjust it to control the OD voltage for some odd reason. (don't ask me why). I was able to successfully do it on some monitors(including the mag251rx), then again ever since i found out the msi had the best motion clarity at 240hz, there's really NO NEED to do it. Just put it on "fast" and you are good to go.

Here's an example. The Predator xb273 x, i was able to lower the overshoot from 6% to 2.5% just by controlling the RGB(color temperature). Unfortunately, each unit is different. But generally speaking. lowering red and green by increments of 5 is usually the first thing I do.
