144hz, Gync, when i receive a steam message..

Post by fluidz » 31 May 2020, 18:58

Heya,

Im using an xb271hy 144hz gsync screen. Just one monitor. In some games, when a steam notification comes through, steam lets me know by placing an icon on the taskbar, and it blinks orange - which is normal. But as soon as that message arrives, the game im in feels like it loses gsync, as the screen slows down, its almost as if gsync is toggled off and some weird framepacing issue occurs. The odd thing is, the gsync indicator on screen is still there. To stop this weird behaviour, each time i receive a steam message notifiation, I alt and tab out of the game, and open the message, close the message, alt and tab back into the game. This fixes it until the next message arrives. Yes I could disable steam notifications, but then I would be missing messages. I searched google and a few people have mentioned has having the same issue, but they are using two screens, and say that the 2nd screen slows down. But in my case, Im using one screen, and its that screen that slows down.

Use steam overlay so that you don't have to tab out.
