ELMB Sync - Question ASUS TUF VG259QM

Post by yungracks » 13 Jun 2020, 03:40

Hello,

I bought the ASUS TUF VG259QM yesterday and, got it today.
Its 240hz GSync Comp. I like it so far.

But going through the settings I saw the setting; ELMB Sync
What I can find about it is that it has to do something with motion blur, but should I enable it and if so will GSync still be enabled?

I can't seem to find out by googling it.

G-Sync will stay enabled as long you have also adaptive sync on. You should only enabled ELMB on the VG259QM if you can stay at least above 200 FPS otherwise the image quality will be worse, because it uses automatically a higher overdrive setting (80). If you can stay above 200 FPS its preference, just try it out for yourself, though it can cause a little more input lag but maybe its worth for you for a sharper image.

If you want ELMB + VRR at the same time you have to enable both ELMB-SYNC and Adaptive-Sync.
Personally, I recommend standard ELMB-Sync (with no Adaptive Sync) on this monitor.

I just enabled ELMB Sync and my Overdrive was on 60, on how much was it on default?

When you enable ELMB-Sync it is automatically set to OD80.

Yes but I disabled it and dont remember what is normally is on, do you know on how much Overdrive is when ELMB Sync is off?

OD60 is on by default when you reset the monitor however OD80 is better for 280hz

I only play 240hz, so do I keep it on 60? Or 0? I dont see any difference, im just using GSync Compatible.

You should either pick OD40 or OD60, some users report better results with OD60 and others with OD40.

The only way to see any difference is to use ufotest ghosting and choose yourself, there's a VG259QM review stating that OD40 is better than OD60 (similar to the VG279QM), I tried his same test and I got his exact same results however his method (3840 pixels per seconds and checking ufotest retention with a high fps camera) is IMO incorrect for checking motion clarity, camera pursuit is still the best way to test it.

Personally I notice a small improvement that OD60 has over OD40, the black tends to have a smaller trail behind on the left side of the UFO, this is mostly noticeable in the lower and middle strip while the one with the darker background has no improvement from OD40 vs OD60.

The yellow and white part of the UFO are slightly brighter with OD60, this means that it either manage to complete a perfect color transition inside the 4.17ms window or it introduces an extremely low amount of color overshoot for these brighter colors (But I'm not sure about it because there are no visible coronas behind the ufo, however OD80 and OD100 share this same behaviour while introducing a noticeable amount of overshoot at this same referesh rate)

OD60 is really good for 240hz, 2 out of 3 ufotest strips have absolutely NO CORONAS AND NO BLUR.

Minor blur is only noticeable on the ufo with the darker background (like every other 240hz IPS).

What I'm currently using is 240hz OD60 with Freesync and 235-246fps cap, I play with high sensibility (wrist aiming) and I noticed that if I play with OD80 I tend to lose track of the targets if I flick or move the camera fast.
The overshoot level is not worth the slightly better motion clarity.

Unless you are playing at 280hz stick to OD60, it is very consistent.

And yes there is absolutely no difference between OD0, OD20 and OD40 at 240hz.
