The Official *MSI Optix MAG251RX* Owners Thread
Re: The Official *MSI Optix MAG251RX* Owners Thread
Hey Guys , i would like to ask about the G-Sync range (not freesync) of this monitor , on the official nvidia website it says that this monitors VRR range is only 48-120Hz , is this true ? , in most of games i play i can get more then 120fps , this means i wont be able to benefit from g sync on this monitor right ? sorry if it was already answered i cant find the answer anywhere. Thanks.

vrr range is 48-240hz by default, you can actually change it to 25-240hz VRR range using CRU (but really has no benefit)Insideone wrote: ↑23 Dec 2021, 09:45Hey Guys , i would like to ask about the G-Sync range (not freesync) of this monitor , on the official nvidia website it says that this monitors VRR range is only 48-120Hz , is this true ? , in most of games i play i can get more then 120fps , this means i wont be able to benefit from g sync on this monitor right ? sorry if it was already answered i cant find the answer anywhere. Re: The Official *MSI Optix MAG251RX* Owners Thread
I'm about to get this monitor, I like to play multiplayer cs:go and singleplayer FPS games, my previous monitor is benq xl2430t 144hz, is a garbage compared to nowadays...
Update on 05.03.2022: Finaly got it, 0 scratch, used, for 225! absolutely enjoying it in FPS games @240hz + Displayport 1.4 cable (even though monitor supports only 1.2), this thing is a beast, destroys my benq tn with 144hz, 10 out of 10 B-) Just need a bit more tuning, and read this forum once again for the optimal settings, so happy i found this forum

who could not achieve 10bit + 240(native), for you.
you just need to find cru 1.4.1, run reset-all.exe => restart.exe
then we do as described above. I'll just copy.
1/OpenCRU.exe
2/ Select the MSI MAG251RX (Active) monitor
3/ At the very bottom, clic on "Delete" (Extension blocks box)
4/ Clic on add (on the same Extension blocks box of course)
A new window opens
5/ Under Detailed resolution clic on Add (do not touch the Type : CEA-861 thing)
A new window opens
6/ Select Timing : Automatic LCD Native
7/ Change the frequency refresh rate to : 240.000

Re: The Official *MSI Optix MAG251RX* Owners Thread
does anybody know if the sync width, porch ect has any affect on freesync/gsync smoothness?
default/normal
when you change it to other settings the settings change
does this change anything?

Re: The Official *MSI Optix MAG251RX* Owners Thread
Hi,
I have a MSI 251rx 240Hz bought a month ago. I noticed that if I connect it to my PC through HDMI, it works fine. If I use DP it is slow to detect signal . It starts to display when boot is over it reaches desktop. Also this comes with a red VGA signal on mobo. Everything works fine afterwards. No performance flaws at all.
This doesnt happen when I reboot PC (monitor doesnt turn off) and then I can see bios access options .
I tried to change monitor settings , disable Eco mode , disable enable autoscan, I manually installed the driver from official site, change DP port on GC ... no success
I cant find another DP cable in my country to try it.
I made videos to illustrate the problem:
1 / DP post : https://streamable.com/eewwnc
2/ DP restart : https://streamable.com/ko2jiq
3/ HDMI post : https://streamable.com/ko2jiq
Firmware is FW.019
https://postimg.cc/bDVXd7Kg
I had a 144Hz monitor before connected through DP an naver had a similar problem
Any clue ?
Edit :
I tried with online MSI support , they asked to turn of autoscan , chose DP manually and after I showed them the video this was their response :

I think they consider this to be a normal boot ? I would like if a peer user share their monitor boot time under DP if possible.Since the motherboard's VGA debug LED is on but the monitor has display eventually, for this part, please check with motherboard vendor.
Different monitors have different scaler IC and different response time. If the response time is not as fast as system boot up time, it's very likely that the monitor won't have display during boot up since the timing doesn't match with each other.
When the monitor has multiple output ports, it will take longer time for the monitor to detect each port's signal.
Thank you!

Hello. What actual minimum brightness in cd2/m of this device? I found info only about aw2521hf wich should share same AUO matrix but i not sure.
Re: The Official *MSI Optix MAG251RX* Owners Thread
What would be a good 2022 alternative to this piece of gear with similar specs?
Re: The Official *MSI Optix MAG251RX* Owners Thread
If you delete the extansion blocks in CRU - so you dont have any Data blocks unter Extension Block and just add the resolution with 240HZ, you can select 10 bit color - make sure you reset and restart via CRU before changing settings.Okeydoke wrote: ↑21 Jul 2020, 22:41@RLCSContender or anyone else that might know,
When I make the custom 1920x1080 resolution at 240hz in CRU so that it gets designated as "native," I lose the option to select 10 bit color, only 8 bit is available in the dropdown. I reverted back to the stock settings with the non native regular 1920x1080 at 240hz that it came with and the option for 10 bit is back. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?
Are we left with the choice of slightly less blurry and less input lag at 8 bit, or 10 bit with the extra blur and input lag caused by GPU scaling (because its a non native resolution)?
Thanks for any help. First time poster.
