The best monitors with least blur/best response times

Post by logicio » 15 Jun 2020, 12:09

ive literally sat at my computer for days straight. DAYS. trying to figure out the best monitor.
So ill explain what ive come down to.

mag252rx
VG259QM
xl2546s

Ive done my research, and ive found out that the IPS panels are now cutting into TN G2G/Blur reduction times. Although, the best TN panels are still superior. My goal is to find a 240hz 1080p monitor with no limited ghosting, overshoot, and crisp clarity at around 300-400$. It seems like the best bet here is the VG but only when running at the perspective 280fps. Which im not to confident in with how games perform these day. Even on the new Big Nave/Zen 3 generation. So ive always had an issue and complained about some sort of blur in fortnite when im build battling. As if im not even able to distinct the enemy when turning extremly quick. I have a XG2402 right now and im selling it for 120 to a friend. (has a little tiny scratch in the middle of the screen). I know that its G2G is insane but i notice blur on it and im not satisfied with clarity.

TLDR;
Im looking for the best TN Panels out there that are said to just beat out the MAG252rx and the VG259qm. I would get the Benq 2546s but its 500$ and hard to even find. Is there any 300-400$ monitors out there that even beat the MAG or the VG? Where are these "Best" TN panles at? I cannot find them. Thanks. @Chief Blur Buster maybe help us peasants

I feel your pain logicio.
Literally in the same shoes. I wanted to ask chief and others but I just feel i'd be pain in the ass from their perspective so i kept my mouth shut and just visited this forum each and every day just randomly reading stuff since terminology is bonkers for me.
I've come down to the same conclusion as you. But i'm choosing between those 3 as well just instead of vg259qm i wanna go with 27" version....or even 2746s....dont know why but 27" is tempting. I wanna try it.
I really am competitive gamer and I am playing mostly games where i could reach those frames required for 240hz but I also enjoy so much watching movies and tv shows.
Currently I own benq2430T and as much as i dont mind watching anything on this screen i feel if i take a look at IPS panel i wont be able to go back :D
And yet again i dont wanna trade my game performance for that. I want best of both worlds :D
Its so hard...

jesus... me too. i am trying to decide on which monitor to get for best gaming clarity performance. one that works well at 240hz but also at lower FPS too since i can run CSGO, overwatch, rainbow six, rocket league at 240fps but apex legends and warzone at 140-150 fps steady.
my choices are
viewsonic XG270
MSI MAG251RX
Asus 259QM
zowie XL2546S.
i dont care about money i just want the best for me.

yeah im about to just go out to a micro center and get a VG259QM...
this monitor is just as good as the TN panels from what ive read here in that other post comparing the MAg to the VG but thats only at like 260+ fps. and i KNOW not all games can reach that and its not a matter of specs its just terribly optimized games. Maybe im wrong here, im gonna build a new pc with Big Navi and Zen 3 but im just not sure if those specs can pump 280fps on games like Fortnite endgame or rust or ESV. Most games just cant get above 240fps :/ so idk. i want perfection but im about to just get in my car and go get a VG at this point since the mag is never availible and the Benq is too expensive.....i wish Chief or someone would response quickly and help people like us out :/

That sounds like you want a monitor with the gsync module since it has variable overdrive and the response time will change to fit the hz/fps to not get overshoot at lower fps/hz.

well i could just cap the game at its highest stable FPS so it never goes down. and not use g sync or just use G sync in these monitor i listed and just cap anyway

It's a nightmare really...

Omen 25f - no one knows if its 0.5ms panel.
Acer Nitro XF252Q - rumored to have switched to a different slower panel without telling anyone.
XL2746S - low availability, overpriced as hell, no idea if 1080p at 27 is good, I might love or hate dyac.

I've had ASUS TUF VG279QM, the bigger version of the VG259QM, it's a great monitor when it comes to response times for an IPS panel type. ASUS has done a good job with their fastIPS panels. At 240 Hz and overdrive 80, this thing reaches an average of 3.55 ms GtG with practically no overshoot at all. Average error is about 1.4%, which is nothing. That's absolutely amazing performance for an IPS-type panel. It's one of the very few IPS displays that can compete with top TNs right now. That, and you also get much better colours and very wide viewing angles that IPS offers, in opposite to TN, which is known for its washed out colours and very poor viewing angles. Gaming with 280 Hz overclock was also pretty cool, although the difference is marginal, in my opinion. At 280 Hz and overdrive 80, VG279QM reaches an average of 3.82 ms GtG, which is - in theory - already a little bit too slow for 280 Hz, because the refresh window at 280 Hz is only 3.57ms, while for 240 Hz it's 4.17 ms. In practice, however, it was totally fine, as the overshoot is extremely low at less than 1% average error, and at 280 Hz you still get more than 70% of pixel transitions within the refresh rate window if we add +1ms, so it's good enough. I could play CS:GO without issues at 280 Hz + overdrive 80.

MSI MAG251RX is a little bit faster then the VG259QM, averaging at 3.21ms GtG with overdrive "Faster", BUT is has way more overshoot. Average error is low at 3.3%, however the worst errors are as high as 37%, so you might occasionally spot some light trails behind moving objects while gaming. What's more, MAG251RX has terrible ergonomy comparing to the VG259QM. It only has height adjustment, you cannot adjust anything but height, while the ASUS has height, swivel and pivot adjustments in a good range.

BenQ Zowie XL2546S is a heavily overpriced display, in my opinion. Sure, the Zowie line is said to be the best in terms of performance and most professional FPS players use Zowie XL series monitors, but for me personally, TN panels are unacceptable, with horrible, washed out colours and very poor viewing angles. I've had BenQ Zowie XL2546 and I could not stand it. I really love IPS image quality and viewing angles. If you care only about the best performance, XL2546S is said to be able to reach pixel transitions as fast as in 0.5ms, and its predecessor - XL2546 - is the most used display on e-sport professional FPS scene, so for solely performance purposes, I'd give it a try.

From these options I'd personally go with the ASUS TUF VG259QM/VG279QM.
